Hi, I'll be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this fall, and I'm hearing that crime rate is pretty bad in Savannah. I've never been there before, and I'll be looking for an apartment soon.

Could somebody please tell me which neighbourhoods to avoid, and which neighbourhoods are generally safer? I'm an Animation major, so I'll be based mainly at Anderson Hall and Montgomery Hall (I think). I ran a search on Google maps, and I'm thinking of the neighborhood between Forsyth Park and Daffin Park, as they are within walking distance to the abovementioned halls. Is this a bad choice?

Thanks in advance!

My couz will be a Soph at SCAD. I havent heard one complaint from him about crime. He knows it's there, but he hasnt had trouble. If you want me to find out where to avoid, i'll ask him.

I've never perceived Savannah as being bad as far as crime goes. My 8th grade trip was there and our school let us go on our own a bit, so it definitely could not have been that bad due to that.

I've been to the Forsyth Park area a few times and it's nice. I would imagine it's expensive though and I don't know if I remember any apartments- just nice old houses.

Savannah is known as pretty crime-ridden actually.

See.. when I think of Savannah, I think of "old" Savannah, which is where SCAD is. You know, with the old Southern houses and live oak trees. That area is tourist central and pretty safe. The rest of Savannah might not be as much, but I almost consider it a different place than the Savannah where SCAD is.

loslobos71: I'll be grateful if you'd do that. Thanks!

You can get the crime statistics for any college at:

http://www.ope.ed.gov/security/search.asp

Just do a search. The stats include public property near the campus.
