I have been accepted into the Scholars program and I think it sounds like something I would like to do, but I have a few questions about it. Does the Scholars program provide connections to internships similar to the honors program? Is it possible to apply for the honors program after the two year scholars deal? Finally, does my acceptance into scholars give me a good chance of receiving merit aid? Thanks!

I don’t know the answers to any of your questions lol but I’m wondering the exact same things

I’m with you two!

There’s a lot of info on this site:
[Honors College & College Park Scholars | University of Maryland](http://www.excellence.umd.edu/)
and here:
[College Park Scholars at the University of Maryland](http://www.scholars.umd.edu/)
But some of it’s vaguer than I’d like!

Would the email a student received today, 1/30/10 tell if they were invited into the Scholar’s Program-- or would that info be included in the snail mail response received next week?

The email that my son got today does not have it. He had to log into the system (which is understandably slow today) and see it there.

for the scholars program admission - it is NOT in the e-mail they sent. however, it’s on the website when you log in to check your decision

Scholars and honors are both two year programs, for freshman & sophomore years, so you wouldn’t transfer into honors. You can, however, as a Scholar, sign up for honors seminars that still have spaces after the honors students sign up.

For internships, Scholars is GREAT for them. They have TONS of opportunities, and you actually are required to do an internship (or a research paper, but most people do an internship), so you definitely get that experience.

Being in Scholars, unfortunately, doesn’t mean anything for merit aid, and they (the Scholars office) have no control over financial aid anything.

If anyone has any questions about Scholars, I’d be happy to help!
