Questions about science courses

Does it look bad to not take Chemistry in high school? It seems like Chemistry is viewed as a "core" course.

I hate science in general, and the only science that seems kind of interesting to me is AP Environmental Science. At my school, it is recommended that I take Chemistry before taking AP Enviro. Do I really need to take Chemistry to do well in AP Environmental Science? By the way, I took an intro to Chemistry course so I do have a little bit of background in Chemistry..

Also, what is a "lab science"? Many colleges say they'd like to see you take at least 2 lab science courses or something like that.

Lastly, is 3 years of science enough to get into a good college? I don't want to major in anything science-related.

I'd be grateful if you could answer any of my questions. Thanks!

A lot of the stuff in ap environmental and chemistry overlaps so you might as well take chemistry and it will help you better understand certain concepts in AP ES.

A lab science is any science class structured so a significant portion of [class] time is spent in doing labs..

Is the chemistry that overlaps complicated? I forgot to include that I have a little bit of background in Chemistry but never have taken an actual Chemistry course.

if you are shooting for top 25ish schools, you should take bio, chem, and phys, if not, then do what you like, but make sure its 2 years. APES at my school was known as "rocks for jocks".

Ok, I'll 'fess up. The real reason I don't want to take Chem is because the chem teacher at my school despises me because of something big that happened in the past and would ruin my life. My counselor is so ignorant and arrogant that she wouldn't let me switch out of the class if I started having problems with the teacher. Not only this though, I actually do think AP Environmental would be a lot more interesting.

I think you should just take Chem, IMHO. If you understand it, it can be fascinating. (excluding stoichiometry)

And teachers really shouldn't be holding grudges. She has no chocie but to start fresh with you.

This year I'm taking Chem (first year) and AP Environmental. I have never run into a situation where I've needed to know more than middle school chemistry to understand something in Environmental. Like everyone else on here says, you should take chemistry... if only for one year. You should take AP Environmental too though, because you are interested and it is a great class (depending on how good your teacher is). I guess it could be incredibly boring if your teacher is bad, but mine is really good so we do a lot of great labs and field investigations.

Well, I think that you should just take chemistry, because that foundation would be good for college level science courses (In some colleges you are required to take some science course, I think). I think that if you want to get into a good college, you should be all rounded, so take Bio, Physics, and Chemistry, that will look good on your app.
