Questions about Selective Scholarship Application

thanks, son has had work service at his high school (residential school) for the past 3 years, so he wouldnt mind that and would kill to have a single room! already had 3 years of roommates, wants his own space.

I also have no knowledge of residential scholars. I don’t know anyone who has done that.

If I remember all this correctly, this is what I saw come to my D regarding an offer of admission.

The first thing she got is the “congrats” e-mail and it says that you are eligible to apply for SSA. I think it’s the 2nd paragraph.
1st = Congrats.
2nd = Eligible to apply for SSA.
3rd = Set up your account and get housing requested.

Then next came the small packet by snail mail. That ALSO had paperwork that said what your automatic scholarships were. "We show you are eligible for $XXXX.XX automatic scholarship and $XXXX.XX national merit, etc.

Then you get a SEPARATE mailing from Hutton Honors college, if eligible. That mailing has only a post card in it, to return by 5/31 if you accept IU and Hutton. There is no application/essay.

She’s gotten a “postcard” from CAS, but it really doesn’t SAY anything (she hasn’t finished her SSA application yet). There are four deparmental scholarships listed for incoming freshmen in CAS. Only one has a link to any info about it.

Once you go online and create an account to apply for SSA, there are three essays. Unfortunately, I don’t know what they are. I do know that my D said that one of them (the largest?) does ask you to speak on a subject specific to an academic interest of yours. If you are majoring in music…it should be an essay on a music topic. That’s all I really know. You also need 2 recs. One is academic, and the other is someone who can speak to your personal accomplishments, interests, etc.

This account will also allow you to look into housing preferences (we haven’t gotten that far in our house yet) and MAYBE give more info on the residential scholar?
