Questions About Seton Hall

Im thinking about going to Seton Hall University for Computer Science and I was hoping someone enrolled could clear the water for me. I have heard a couple bad things about the school and I want to see if they are true.
1.) Is the school a suitcase school where everyone leaves on the weekend; Is the social life terrible at SH
2.) How are Internships. Does SH help you land Internships… Ive heard the good and the bad
3.) How well do the professors prepare you for life after college.
thank you

What are your stats, what’s your budget and how much does SH cost?
All of these would factor into the answers.

@MYOS1634 i was already accepted and it is at the top of my budget with the scholarship.

I mean that adults here need details, context, to offer you a cost analysis… such as… cost
Seton Hall IS a suitcase school but if it’s the best bargain you have, it’ll do.
However, if you have other acceptances and can list the result of this (tuition+fees+room+board) - (grants+scholarships) as well as your budget and stats, we should be able to tell you whether Seton Hall is your best value or not.

Yes, it is definitely a suitcase school.
I’ve heard their internships are in the “decent” to “good” range.
Where else have you applied?

@newjerseygirl98 I got into Seton Hall and Monmouth and I am waiting to hear back from Rowan. Do you think that Seton Hall is worth the money that it cost. Ive heard both sides ( I love it hear and it was fantastic… and the "this is just an expensive Community College).
If it helps im majoring in Computer Science so Internships are a really big deal, Not really the college you go to

@MYOS1634 right now I have been accepted to Seton Hall and Monmouth for Computer Science
Seton Hall with Scholarship would be $37,000 a year
Monmouth with the grant would be $33,000 a year
I also applied to Rowan but they have took a long time and I have not heard a response so I don’t know what is happening with that

Chck your portal.
Rowan CS is better than either Seton Hall or Monmouth, and may well be cheaper too.

@MYOS1634 my application is under review but they have been saying that since like the beginning of December (II applied in October) so I don’t know if I am going to hear back or get in.

reach out to the admission staff or your regional rep, and ask if anything’s missing.

Monmouth is expensive, although less than SH.
SH isn’t great, but it’s much better than our community colleges.
Definitely ask if their missing anything. A few students at my school were in similar situations, only to discover their transcripts were never received.

@MYOS1634 nothing is missing… that is what is scaring me. I have called twice and both times they just tell me it is under review and that they hope I hear back soon

Have you applied anywhere else?
Montclair, Richard Stockton, Stevens, SUNYs?

*they’re, sorry.

Well, I think you should just wait. They wouldn’t lie to you. Montclair took three months to send my acceptance, but that was because they didn’t look at applications until December.

I saw you have a 3.3ish/1590, I think Stevens would be an unrealistic reach.

I think you should apply to Montclair, I’m sure you’ll get in. It’s kind of a suitcase school, but it’s a much better price than SH or Monmouth.

Have you applied anywhere else?
Montclair, Richard Stockton, SUNYs (New Paltz, Albany…)? PASSHE schools (West Chester U?)

I applied on their website, how do I send in my transcripts and reccomendations?

Go to your school and have them send the transcript (or, have them seal the transcript in an envelope and stamp it across the flap). For recommendations, if they can’t be uploaded/emailed directly, same thing, you provide a stamped envelope to your recommender or they give the envelope, signed across the flap.

We’re very happy to hear that you are interested in Seton Hall University. Contrary to what some people say, Seton Hall is not a suitcase school and there are events and activities going on all the time. The more a student gets involved in the community here at Seton Hall, the more they will enjoy their experience. There are over 100 clubs and organizations for students to be a part of.

As for internships, Seton Hall is rated by BusinessWeekly as being one of the top five schools in the nation for internship opportunities. 75% of our students complete at least one internship, and our Career Center has over 15,000 internship opportunities available for our undergraduates. Additionally, the Career Center is staffed by 12 dedicated career counselors who will work with you as early as your fall semester in Freshman year. Seton Hall’s employment rating is also 20% higher than the national average.

Lastly, one of the biggest assets of Seton Hall is its faculty. Professors bring real-world experience into their classrooms and are genuinely invested in the success of their students. Our student to faculty ratio is 14:1, which is even smaller than some high schools.

Check out our student profiles at http://www7.shu.edu/leaders/index.cfm. There, you will be able to hear directly from some of our students as they talk about student life, opportunities and academics.

SHU is in between a suitcase school and a residential school they are trying to become a residential school but I wonder if they have an actual plan in place as they seem clueless at times.

I do agree that the alumni is very loyal and that there are going to be opportunities at SHU that are there for the taking.
