Questions about Stat 21

I'm thinking of taking the class in a future semester. How is the class/professor(s)? How hard is the class for someone who has never taken a statistics class before (not even AP Stats)? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Even though I took Stats 20, Stats 20/21 is notoriously difficult. The two are required classes for those who intend to apply for the business major. This means that the curve is very hard. As for the material, generally, I feel that the professors give out tests that you wouldn’t expect from their lectures. If you don’t have to take 20/21, go with 2 if you have to take a Stats class.

You can also watch old Stats 21 lectures on the Berkeley webcasts.

Take Stats N21 during the summer…its an online course, and A LOT easier than any of the stats courses that are offered during the school year.

A number of med schools state that online classes are not acceptable for the premed requirements - does Stats N21 show up on the transcript ‘as if’ taken in a classroom, or is it marked somehow to indicate it was online?

Anyone have more information on the online Stats course?
I’ve heard mixed things about it. What do you do when you need help? Are the GSIs/professor really helpful?
I really want to take it this summer so that I can go home… haha. Otherwise I would have to take Stats in the fall or Stats during summer sessions… :(

Stat 134 would be much more useful to take. Stat 21 doesn’t even use any calculus which is essential to probability theory and statistics.

How is 134 in difficulty and content compared to 20/21?

I would like to know more about this as well. Stats 134 would be more useful for me (I’m an Econ major), but I’m somewhat concerned about the difficulty of the course. Is AP Stats + fairly good general math abilities sufficient for understanding the concepts in 134 and doing well?

If you are worried about Stats 21 being hard, you will die in 134. I’ve had friends who got solid As in 21 but are struggling hard in 134. As long as you have a passion for statistics and are willing to spend the time and effort learning the concepts well and doing a lot of practice problems, a good grade in 134 is definitely possible.
