Questions about subject tests

I need some help planning the subject tests for S to take.

First how many should he take? I'm thinking three so he can send his two best scores to schools requiring two tests. Is two the normal number for most selective schools?

Math 2 - planning after pre-calculus (after December of Sophomore year)
Spanish - after Spanish 4 (end of Sophomore year) also is it necessary to take the listening part?

US History - could take after AP history

Son will take IB Biology 1&2 and IB Chemistry 1&2 so he could take either test

What tests do you recommend? The only one set in stone for him is Math 2. Also, he really would prefer not to take the English.

Are some tests considered much harder than others?

I believe that most selective colleges want two, but some want three. The general consensus is that you should take one math, one science, and one language/lit/humanities to show that you are well rounded. I’d wait and see which science he feels more comfortable with. I took AP Bio my sophomore year and loved it. After the AP test, the subject test was VERY, very easy.
