I currently admitted to Taft as a sophomore and I have a few questions:
- Do you get to choose between a single or double room?
- How many subjects are required to be taken?
- My math at my current school is most likely way different than BS, but does anyone know if I would have to take a placement test once at Taft to see where I fit?
- What shoes are allowed? I wear mostly tennis/converse shoes and I heard Hotchkiss allows them now, but what about Taft.
- Are mini fridges allowed? (Stupid question)
My daughter is a sophomore at Taft. She loves it and is very happy there. Most sophomores get double rooms. She takes 6 courses this semester because she needed an art (math, English, Spanish, history, physics, and public speaking). Public speaking counts as an art class. Yes, you do have to take a placement test. She has friends who took geometry in 9th at their previous school and did not do well on the placement test and had to repeat it. You can wear converse shoes except when you have the formal sit down dinners. No mini fridges allowed but their dorms are amazing - nicer than a lot of hotels. They have a huge common area with a full kitchen, dining room and living area. You can label your food and leave it in the fridge. Hope that helps.
yes this helps so so much, thank you!
I have a question about the art requirement. I take drama this year as my art, so would I be able to take 5 classes next year?
Hi @MakMacdonald , would you mind weighing in a bit about the arts at Taft? Socially, is there a divide between the artsy and the sporty kids, or do most kids do both? I have a son, so am mostly concerned about this from a boy’s point of view. He’s athletic but also really into studio art. Many schools that we looked at seemed to have a social separation between those two groups and we are unsure about Taft. Thank you for any insight!
