Hey everyone I'm applying to some boardings schools for the 2011-2012 school year and I have a few questions about Taft. I want to here from Taft students/ alumni/ someone who is connected with the school.

Do people (in general) like being at Taft? This is important to me. Everyone in my current school hates their own school. And that gets kind of annoying after a while. I really want to go to a school which people actually like.

How good is the music program? It looks fairly impressive on the website, but is it actually any good?

What's probably the worst thing about Taft? I know that no school is perfect so what's Taft's biggest flaw?

In English/History/any Social Studies class how often do you have to write? I like to write so I'm just wondering how much emphasis is placed on writing at Taft.

I know that not a lot of people on CC are from Taft but I hope that someone can answer this stuff for me. Thanks.

Sorry I can’t really answer your question, but I noticed you said you liked to write. I think the school that puts the biggest emphasis in writing would be Middlesex. I mean, during the interview you are asked to write an essay in a limited time span. Then again, I’m not sure about Taft. I did apply, but I never completely finished my application.

Hope that helped…although I don’t think so :)

hahaha yeah Middlesex does put a lot of emphasis on writing. That’s a great thing for me and in your sophomore you have to take a special writing class. I hope that at Taft they put at least some emphasis on writing. At my current school we hardly ever do any writing which is pretty annoying.

You might want to PM ExieMITAlum. She doesn’t get on that much anymore, but I think she has a daughter that’s going to Taft.

they do a lot of writing at taft that’s for sure-english is probably one of its strongest subjects

Thanks smash95. Do u go to Taft?

I’ll post once she starts. But for the record I’m an Exeter alum and not only did we love Taft, one of my Exeter instructors spoke highly of it before we went for an interview.

But the right school for us, isn’t necessarily the right school for someone else. We just liked the mix of academics (yes - writing is a big deal) and the student/faculty interaction. It was a bit more laid back without given up the academic challenge. I asked a young lady who as walking the halls what she thought of the school and she beamed and gushed and said she “loved it.” That seemed to be a common thread from students my daughter knew from summer school at a different campus.

Go for the interview and tour. That more than anything will tell you if you fit in or not.

yea i do-sorry for the late reply
