I just took the Math IIC yesterday. They gave us a huge booklet containing all of the subject tests, and they allowed people who were taking multiple subject tests to keep the same booklet. What mechanisms does the College Board have in place to ensure people don’t view some of the other tests in advance? Can’t someone just flip to a different section and start looking at the questions? The proctor would never be able to tell because not everyone in a room takes the same subject test.
I’m not saying I would do this, I’m just concerned because it seems like it’s so easy for others to get an unfair advantage.
Well…if the proctor catches you, all your scores are disqualified. If the proctor is paying even remote attention to the students, they should be able to see you flip from one test to the other. In addition, most tests are made so that you’ll need the entire hour to go through the questions, and students likely will not have time to go flip to more tests. If a student is willing to take the risk of disqualification and if they have enough time to flip over to other tests, then I don’t think there are any mechanisms that prevent them from doing that. But again, it is a huge risk and usually proctors can tell pretty easily, even if people are all taking different tests.
I don’t know, no one ever mentioned a rule about not flipping to other subject tests. I took SAT Bio and when I finished I was just curious and flipped through all the other tests in the 3 minutes I had remaining. I was debating whether I was ready to take the Math II test (I hadn’t been planning to that day, but then they said we could choose to sit through another subject test if we wanted for an additional fee). I turned to that test, glanced over the problems, and decided I needed studying before taking it. No one said anything.
Now I’m thinking about how lucky I must have been if it truly isn’t allowed.
Is finishing a subject test early then flipping through the same test (but not a different test) to review your answers risky, even though it’s allowed? Even though I’d assume proctors would check before making an accusation, some horror stories here say otherwise for some people.
I did during my US History test by finishing 15 minutes early, and I was sort of worried that the proctor might’ve thought that (because in other tests like the sciences, there’s usually only barely enough time to finish the questions.)
As long as you’re on the same test for the entire hour, it’s allowed and the proctor can’t do anything about it. Of course, if your eyes wander and look worried, they might get suspicious, but you’re still following the rules.
