Questions about the actual Application Process?

Ok, so almost all schools want online applications now right?

-Are the teacher recommendations sent by mail or online?

-Am I allowed to make copies of a recommendation to send to each school? It wouldn't make sense to ask a teacher to write 5 different recs.(This might seem like a dumb question, but I gotta ask it)

-Is your transcript by your counselor sent separately from your online application?

I know these questions might be silly, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything right and I'm on the right track. Just finished my Junior year and I want to make sure I know what's happening.

-Most colleges prefer that you use their online application
-Teacher recommendations are sent by mail (at least at my school)
-You are not allowed to make copies of a recommendation to send to each school. In fact, you don’t even see your recommendation…
-Your transcript and recommendations are sent by your counselor separately from your online application.

Soooo, if I’m applying to 5 schools that need recommendations, will that one teacher have to write 5 recommendation letters?

No the teacher writes one recommendation and then prints 5 copies of that recommendation, gives it to your guidance counselor and the guidance counselor will send a copy of each recommendation to each college along with the transcript. That way, you can’t see what the teacher wrote for your recommendation (since it’s supposed to be private)

Ah ok I think I understand now. So I just print out the rec form (UMichigan has theirs up) and give to the teacher, in which they make the copies for the counselor.

Ok seems simple then. Thanks a lot

Yakyu Spirits, the teachers that I know at my school don’t use the recommendation form that schools use. Usually they just write a letter describing you as a person. That’s how they avoid filling out 5 different forms from colleges.

That’s allowed? Sorry for all the questions

yes as long as it’s a “recommendation”, any format will and should work for the college
