I understand that Cornell requires all scores in standardized testing, but I had questions regarding the policy. Answers online were either outdated or vague.
First, when the admissions website states, “Applicants who decide to submit both the SAT and ACT to meet testing requirements must submit all scores for both tests,” does that mean I do not have to send all of my SAT scores if I do not intend on using any of them (I abandoned SAT after two tries and performed better on the ACT)? As a follow up question, if you do not select any score to be sent, is that still considered as using Score Choice?
Also, when they state that they do not use College Board’s Score Choice, does that also apply to SAT subject tests as well? (i.e. Do I have to send all of my subject test results?). Cornell addressed this in a FAQ blog post saying they want all subject test scores in 2011, but I was wondering if it still holds truth as their guidelines on the admissions website are vague and the FAQ does not show up in the top results of Google anymore.
Lastly, if the answer to my first question is that I do not have to send any SAT scores if I am not using any of them and the answer to my second question is that I can choose which subject tests to send, would Cornell consider it as using Score Choice?
Sorry for multiple questions, and if I do not get a response, I will try contacting the admissions office for clarification.
“Cornell University requires freshman applicants to submit either all SAT or all ACT scores”
In your case, you can just submit your ACT, no need to send SAT. But you must send all ACT results.
sat subject tests depend on the school to which you are applying:
I did much better on ACT than SAT but I still sent all of my scores (SAT I, SAT II, and ACT) and got in so it can’t hurt. It’s not super clear and I didn’t wanna break any rules lol.
Hello, did you get a response from Cornell about your question? I have the same question- I want to use score choice for my subject tests because they’re not required for the school (School of Human Ecology) I’m applying to.
Nevermind haha, I found my answer. “No, Cornell does not participate in Score Choice. When you send your SAT scores we ask that you send us all of your scores, including all Subject Test scores. When sending your ACT scores, send us all test dates. This allows our selection committee to review the scores that are most supportive to your application. It is to your advantage to send all scores!”
I second what @hleeigh said. We both got in ED for class of 2021 and I also sent every test score I ever took. My SATs weren’t very good but my ACT was good and they still accepted me despite poor SATs. They will ignore the poor scores (put them in the back of the folder) and just focus on the score that gives you the best chance. Despite what most people think, they are looking for a reason to accept you, not a reason to reject you. Hope that makes sense.
