So i received the application yesterday and started filling it out but I have a couple of questions.

1) There’s a lined page where you’re supposed to list your EC’s and awards. I really don’t have any idea how to format them. I made a nice activity list in chart form that highlights my EC’s nicely but the ? clearly says to use the space provided. If I sent in the activity list would they look at it?

2) Do the short answers have to be written in the space provided or could I write see attached and attack a seperate sheet.

I know these questions are probably stupid and anal, but any help would be great!!

I want to do a chart but it's a lined sheet of paper, plus in the upper right hand corner there's a box for a picture of yourself, so it has a chunk cut out of it. How would you go about making a chart? I think I'm going to have to write but I have no idea how to format all of my EC's, awards, etc. onto this one page and make it look organized

shiningstar17 did u ever get an answer for the above 2 question and the other ? you asked in another thread about the lines for SAT scores reporting? are we suppose to list scores from the old test?

xeal, there's one half-page answer about your academic interests and why you want to go to brown, a very short answer about who interested you in brown, a blank page for EC's and awards, and 2 blank pages for the essay (although i think you can type it and attach it)

looking: another thread had some good ideas about the whole EC thing. I'm definitely going to send in my activity list that I made but I still haven't decided what to do about the sheet they give you yet. In the other thread a parent said admissions said it was alright to write see atached. But I'm not so sure if I want to do that b/c some colleges are picky about that kind of thing.

Any ideas on how anyone is formating this would be appreciated.

looking: I never took the old SAT so I can't help you out on that one. I just can;t figure out why they would only give 4 slots when they require the new SAT and 2 SAT II's, which requires 5 slots minimum. Maybe someone brave could call? lol As of right now I'm just going to leave off one of my SAT II's. They get the score report where they see all of your scorers anyway so I guess it doesn't matter that much.

i dont understand what you mean by needing 5 slots minimum....they give you 4 lines....i think you're suppose to write math, verbal, and writing on the same line for one test rather than splitting them up into individual lines.....i wrote all three scores for each test on one line

Well, would they have access to your college board scores anyways? If that is so, then I do not think it is that important that we fit everything on.

Shiningstar...I think I am the parent you were referring to. Yes, I told you that you could attach an activity/award type resume and write "see attached" and leave the app page blank. I asked the admissions office DIRECTLY about this. They said fine. My D did just that. She got in RD and is now a soph (and loves it).

Yes, colleges CAN be picky about this. It VARIES from school to school. When it was unclear as to what was acceptable for Brown, we asked. Some apps say, "fill in the activity chart even if you are going to attach a resume." With such schools, my D did just that....she did a chart but she still attached her resume. There are a couple schools that say do not send resumes but that was not the case for my D's schools. If they do not state that you can't, then you CAN attach one. My D sent hers to every school. So did my other D who is now a freshman at NYU. Just make sure you fill in a chart if it says it is required. Brown allowed just the resume as there is no chart and the format is "open" as is Brown, lol. Good luck. Use this as a chance to make your ECs come alive and show just who you are.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I completely messed up the SAT thing. I was trying to divide the SAT into separate lines for m,v,w. I have no common sense sometimes. Hmm...so what should I do about that?? I already wrote it. I think I'll just leave it the way it is...they'll get the scores through college board anyway.

soozievt: Thanks for the advice...I think I will just write see attached. I was just worried about making the admissions people angry but you had a good point about Brown being very "open." Thanks!

looking: I didn't write in caps for form 1A. I just write regularly.
