Hello.
I just emailed the disability service of Richmond and they told be that they do not have shuttles or buses or whatever for students
Is the campus really that small to have no buses at all?

And, could someone tell me about housing? I really have to know if the beds are all accessible only by a stair (I don't know how to say this in english - elevated beds?) and if there are walk-in showers.

Plus, is the school away from the city? Or is it in the center of the city?
How is the party/social life?
Are there concerts or things to do near the campus?

What about the weather, is really that snowy?

Thanks a lot!

I am a parent of UR student - maybe there are some students out there who can chime in.

The central portion of the campus is fairly small (takes me about 15 minutes to walk from end to end, and there is a lot of open space around the perimeter, also apartments, a large pond in center, it is a bit hilly in places.

It is in a suburban area approx. 5 miles from downtown Richmond. There is a shuttle bus which runs back and forth to a University of Richmond building downtown(called UR downtown? I think) as a hub for community service, but not sure how often it runs. There are several small shopping centers a short distance off campus - my daughter usually hitches a ride with one of her friends with cars(she does not have a car).

The beds are not lofted unless you request and pay for it, so no stairs are generally needed for beds.

Much of the social life revolves around parties and the greek houses and on-campus apartments. There are also additional social events such as concerts and plays regularly on campus. My daughter is not a huge partier - she and her friends seem to get together for dinner and watch movies more than anything else.

I don’t know about the showers, but they did just build a new dorm and it probably has better handicapped access than some of the older ones.

The weather can get cold in the winter and there is sometimes snow or ice, but it doesn’t usually stick around long. Winter temps are usually in the 40’s (F), sometimes colder, sometimes warmer. Summer temps are very hot, 90’s + (F) and very humid. Will still be very hot in September. Spring and Fall months very pleasant.

This is the link for various transportation which UR offers for trips off campus to shopping centers and downtown Richmond and it looks like they offer a loop around campus in the evening.

Thank you very much!
Last question: how much does the winter/snow and ice/bad weather last?

The worst of winter is about 3 months long in Richmond - December thru February are the coldest months, with winter daytime high temps ranging from upper 40’s to lower 50’s (F). They do occasionally have lower temperatures and get a little bit of snow(usually no more than several inches several times throughout the winter) or a little icy precipitation, but the temperatures are usually high enough that it is melted and gone in day or two.

The winter weather is not usually bad enough to cancel classes and any snow on walkways is shoveled/plowed away to keep them accessible and safe to walk on. As far as East Coast US weather is concerned, Richmond is considered to be a relatively mild climate.

Here is a link which summarizes climate data for the area:

Thank you very much :)
