hello everyone.. i was just wondering what people generally think of the co-op program.. any tips/suggestions/info on the following would be great!

-Was it a good use of time? (worth spending 5 yrs in college for?)
-Was it difficult to find an internship?
-Do you live in the dorms during your co-op or in another area?
-Are these internships paid or unpaid?

Co-op is completely worth it. First, for some high schoolers, the idea of 5 years is kind of a turn off, but once you're a 3rd or 4th year, you're really glad you have that extra time.

There are a few advantages of doing co-op. First, obviously, is the 18 months of work experience you have when you graduate, and that you'll get to do a lot of networking. For a lot of students though, the best part about co-op is exploring your field and figuring out what you want to do with your degree. A science student might want to be a doctor, until they work in a hospital and realize that they'd rather do research. A business student could focus on supply-chain management and hate it, so they shift their focus and try something different. It's a great way to make sure you're in the right major, figure out what you want out of your education, and to graduate knowing what you'll be getting into.

The answers to your other questions vary depending on major/job.
-Some people have trouble finding internships. Some people end up taking jobs they aren't thrilled about. I find that these people are in the minority, and keeping a good GPA/having a job or other activities to put on your resume helps avoid this.
-Most students live on/around campus while they co-op. Some people choose to do co-ops in another area.
-Pay varies greatly. Most people I know DO get paid, some pretty well. I do know some people who chose to take jobs which are unpaid, but really unique and valuable work experience.
