I have received a full ride to Emory (thank you Emory!), which means the amount of financial aid is exactly the same of the cost of attendance. However, the items for cost of attendance include living expense, books, transportation and so on while the items for financial aid includes pell grant, emory grant...etc. Since the items from both category(total cost and aid) dont math, I can not compare how my financial aid money is used. After subtracting everything includes housing cost, tuition, health care and meal plan, I only have like about 1000 dollars left and this 1000 dollars is from my work study, not any kind of grants.
So here are my question: How do they give out money for books and transportation? I need to take air plane to get to Emory, so transportation is a big expense for me. How much do the books typically cost you? Am I supposed to use the 1000 dollars for books and transportation? If I have spend the 1000 dollars on books and transportation, I basically have no financial aid money left and have to get another job for my daily expense (hang-out, shoppings...etc). I am not a spendthrift, but I still need little money to socialize. If there any money left, are they going to send to Emory Card and you can only use it to buy things at Emory?

No, they can send a refund in the form of a check or direct deposit. Also, I would look into buying books from Amazon or some non-Emory Barnes and Noble source. And if you are in majority humanities and social sciences, many which don’t require true textbooks. The library is your friend, use and abuse it. I learned it after freshman year. Many of the books are available at the library for those disciplines.
