Questions about the CSS PROFILE?

I have a few questions regarding the financial aid application process and CSS Profile some colleges require for students asking for financial aid:

Is it possible to choose which colleges to ask for financial aid from? (as in, can I ask for financial aid from my safety schools but not my reach schools? I know it is a weird request, but humor me? :))

On the Common App website, will other colleges see whether I have applied for financial aid for other colleges I am applying to?

Can I choose which colleges I send my CSS Profile to?

Thank you!! :)

Answers;

    • Yes - for the schools you don’t want to ask for financial aid from - just don’t check the FA box on the common app and don’t send them the FAFSA or CSS.
1. No - other colleges will not see where else you’ve sent the common app. However, this is important - when you file the FAFSA, you list which schools to send it to. THOSE SCHOOLS WILL ALL SEE WHERE ELSE YOU ARE SENDING THE FAFSA.
  2. Yes, you send individual colleges the CSS. They won’t see who else is getting the CSS.

Sure you can do this…but typically…those “reach schools” are more expensive and they are where you WOULD want to get need based aid…if you are eligible and need it. How will you attend if you NEED aid, get accepted, and don’t apply for aid?

Many of the top schools are “need-blind” meaning that you should apply for need-based aid because it will not affect whether or not you are accepted. Your financial need will only be viewed once you are accepted

Most schools are need blind - almost all public Us and many/most privates.

Thank you duke dad!

I’m sorry, I forgot to mention I am an international student, so I wouldn’t be eligible for most of the need-blind aid?

Which form is it for a spring transfer - 2011-2012 or 2012-2013?

If you are transferring for spring 2012, you do the 2011-2012 FAFSA (because it’s part of the 2011-2012 school year).

The 2012-2013 FAFSA is for the 2012-2013 school year.

But did you mean to post this on this thread?

I posted on here because it was the most recent thread about CSS. I just made a new thread after this. Now you said to use 2011-2012 for FAFSA - same thing for CSS, correct? I did make one for 2011-2012 but I wanted to be sure before I started it.
