Questions about the deposit

I’m a high school senior who was accepted into The Ohio State University for fall 2014. I still need to see how much scholarship $ I will be offered before making my final decision, but I have a few questions that I need answering about the school that I haven’t been able to find online or from my family member who currently attends OSU.

What does it mean to accept/decline my admission decision on the website?

Is the enrollment deposit binding, or is there a way to back out if I decide to attend another school?

If it is binding, how important is it to pay the deposit sooner rather than later? I want to live on South Campus if I attend, but do I need to submit the deposit as soon as I see the scholarship letter (provided I get enough merit aid), or will I have time to think about my decision?

This is just my understanding so I may be incorrect - if so please correct me.

1 - if you decline it would be like retracting your app, accepting means yes I will come here.

2- no, it is not binding. However, it is nonrefundable and you can (ethically) only have one enrollment deposit out at a time. So you could deposit at ohio state and later retract it and deposit at school A, but you’ll lose $100.

3- I’ve heard housing/orientation info is mailed out in order of deposit receipt, but I’m not 100% sure of this.
