Which engineering major looks to be the most up and coming? How does biomedical rank in this?

Which is generally the highest paying?

Which is the most versatile?

Which has the best availibility for jobs?

Is the aerospace job market not so good?

I’m also deciding on engineering but I hope my comments can help.

I think that really depends on your preference. Biomedical engineering seems to be the most-talked-about field for curing diseases. However, I won’t be surprised if environmental engineering or nanoengineering skyrockets in the next 40 years. The main question you have to ask yourself is: “What type of engineering do I like the most?” Because engineering requires a TON of work, almost everyone chooses a field of engineering because they like that specific field.

2+3+4. Chemical engineering is generally the most high-paying and most-versatile. Electrical engineering, in terms of versatility, is also up there. However, this is only for starting pay and the rest is up to you. Again, I think interest is key here because if you like what you’re doing, you’ll do your job well and thus get paid more.

I am defining “most up and coming” as “the major which is going to grow the largest in the next 10 years”. I believe that major is Nuclear Engineering.

Petroleum Engineering/Nuclear Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Mechanical or Electrical. Possibly Civil.

I am bearish on the commericial and defense aviation. I’m bullish on things which involve “space”.

Biomed

Computer Engineering

ORIE (the most compatible with the rest of the world)

Computer Engineering and Civil

defense is still going to be huge

Nanoengineering is a lie. It’s a hodgepodge of techniques taken from various disciplines that actually use them in order to suck up funding because they make neat-looking pictures.
