Questions about the Michigan Learning Community's Honors Program

I was accepted to UMich’s LSA and I’m not sure whether I should apply to the MLC’s Honors program. I have some questions, some of which are

  • will I be taking classes with other non-Honors students as well as those in the Honors program?
  • if I decide to not join this program, will it disadvantage me academically compare to those who do apply and get into it? (considering my work rate, class attendance etc. is more or less that of a standard student)
  • how much commitment is required if I do join the program, e.g. am I obliged to attend certain classes and event?
  • will joining the program have a significant impact on the amount of free time I have?
  • will I still have a decent access to academic and other support (e.g. career guidance) if I don’t join the program?
  • what percentage of undergrads apply and what percentage of applicants are admitted to this program?
  • are the classes in the Honors Core subjects in the first two year compulsory (I suspect they are) and are they really broad in terms of the subjects area they take up, e.g. English, Natural Sciences etc.

As far as my outlook goes

  • I don’t intend on going to grad school
  • I will probably major in a economics/econmics-business related major
  • I studied british a levels in high school and my grades are generally good

I believe it is to late to apply now-
April 10, 2017 - All applications received after March 8, 2017 but by midnight (Eastern Time Zone) on this date will have a decision sent out via email by 11pm on April 25, 2017. In your notification, you will fall into one of 2 decision categories: admit or deny. We will not accept applications for admission into Honors for Fall 2017 after April 10th.

TSP216 - if you are too late, don’t worry about it at all. It won’t materially impact your academic experience either way. You will still have similar academic support, coursework opportunities will not be materially different nor will the amount of work you’ll need to put in.

If you wish, you can seek out to graduate with honors without being in the LSA Honors Program.

hoping that would be the case, wayneandgarth, thanks
