I’m a freshman MT and assistant to The Music Theatre Program Director at Baldwin-Wallace College! Feel free to ask me any questions about the program, auditions, or absolutely anything! I’d love to answer any questions you may have!

Oh, great! It’s something I’m really interested in. If everything goes as hoped for, I’d be coming into BW with quite a few AP credits, so hopefully that would free up some space to try to work that in.

Hello! I’m a high school junior and in the midst of looking up Musical Theatre schools and I am quite Interested in the program at BW. From what I can tell, it seems to be a very good program and the atmosphere seems to be very open-minded which is very refreshing. Do you see these things to be true so far? Also, how was the Audition process for you? I know I’ve got a million more questions, but I’d start with those. But, if you find time, I’d be GREAT if you could tell me sorta how your daily-life/schedule is at BW Thanks for being open to get info from!

Hi, I am upcoming senior and I am thinking of continuing Musical Theatre in college. I am really interested in your program and have heard such great things about it. However, when I was perusing your website, I found that musical theatre applicants cannot submit a video audition. I am from Hawai’i and it is very difficult for me to travel to Ohio for auditions. Is it possible for you to make some kind of exception? Or, if I have to audition at your school, can I schedule something earlier then the February auditions… for I believe I will be in a show during that time. I would really like to apply to your school, so I am hoping for the best. Thank you!

I’m a current freshman MT at BW and I think that is a great question to call and ask either Victoria Bussert or Scott Plate! (Our director and chairman of the MT program) They are usually welcome to any and all questions. I think their contact info should be online so definitely shoot them an email or call them.
From what I hear I actually think video auditions have been accepted in the past. I dont know if it is an official thing but maybe they make exceptions. Hope that helps! :)

I was unable to find the application for the Musical Theatre audition. Do we just apply academically to the school and then show up at the auditions? Or is there a form we have to fill out to schedule an audition? Also, do we have to provide letters of recommendation to get artistically accepted into the school?
You have to apply to the school first via the common app or the bw school app. Thn you can reserve and audition spot and pay the audition fee. They have additional requirements for the conservatory. . Essay, music teacher eval. I found info online
http://www.bw.edu/admission/undergraduate/conservatory/ @Sunflower7 If you follow the above link, it will take you step by step through the process. You have to apply (using the Common App or the BW App), complete the supplement, pay the audition fee then schedule your audition. Good luck.
According to the BW website for the 2015/2016 audition cycle (it is updated) PreScreens are not required. Word on the street is that the professors did not like how last year’s audition cycle went with the pre-screen, and so have reverted back to no prescreen. I would say that this means it is even more important to get your apps in early - especially if you want the fall date - it will fill quickly - and there is only one date in November. I have also heard that they are ONLY auditioning on campus this year (no Moonifieds - they’ve never done Unifieds). When all the audition slots are filled, that will be it! So, if BW is high on your list, I recommend applying early and getting that audition scheduled! Good Luck to the Class of 2020!!
@CanadianMTgirl My S is a sophomore MT and in the Honors College (I believe there are 2 or 3 from the sophomore class). So far, they play nicely together. It does require a bit more work and specific honors coursework BUT from my S’s experience so far, he has been able to make a course into a course that meets the honors requirements by adding an additional paper/retrospective. So far, so good! There is really no downside to giving it a go to start. Unlike other programs, you do not need to remain in the honors program to keep your scholarship (just maintain the requisite GPA and completion requirements).
@artskids that post of mine was from several years ago, when I was a high school senior. Hopefully the information will be useful to someone else going forward.
