I just have one question about the Stanford supplement right now, but I do anticipate more as I work my way through it. As for this exact moment though, I am filling out the "profile questions," which should be easy, but I have naturally complicated the process =/

The instructions for this set of questions reads, "Please respond to the following questions so we can get to know you better. Respond in two lines or less, and do not feel compelled to answer using complete sentences." However, the give you a rather large text field with a 300 character limit. Furthermore, I am having trouble answering several of the questions in two lines or less:

"How did you spend your last two summers?"
"What is the most significant challenge that society faces today?"
"Name your favorite books, authors, films, and/or musical artists."

Is my browser perhaps manipulated the text field such that two lines is less than it really ought to be? Or were the instructions written with the physical application in mind?

I am looking for thoughts from others starting their applications, as I think you need to see the common app supplement to comprehend how the instructions are somewhat ambiguous (or at least to comprehend my confusion).

I'll probably send in an email to Stanford admissions to be safe, but if there is a general consensus here, then I see no need to.

You should be able to preview your application in PDF form, which will be the way the AO sees it when its ultimately completed and in Stanford's hands. If you're really worried you can check to make sure your responses fall under the two line limit there.

thanks docketgold! I feel like an idiot now (and I am applying to Stanford? yikes) lol. My responses fall under two lines in the print preview generated by pressing the "print preview" button at the bottom of the page (it's right next tto the submit button in case anyone else is looking for it).

I know what you mean eatsalot! The most you can write though is three lines...and I presume they will not get too mad about one extra line...hehe

I honestly didn't find these questions difficult at all :/

I had tons of fun answering them (especially the books/movies one) and was finished in no time. Just don't stress about the two-line short answers. Don't use complete sentences, just show your personality.

It's not the question that is hard...Giving answers is easy. I just have lots of favorite films, books, music artists, and authors. I feel bad if I leave any of them out. What would my boy Dostoevsky do if he knew I left him off the list? You read Crime and Punishment...the guy is mad?!

Seriously though, asking me about my favorite of anything is like asking for a 4-hour nap...cause I go on and on ;-)

Now that I can do that preview feature, the two line limit is not a problem :-)

I'm not applying yet but I'm just curious, do you put what kind of article it is in parentheses or something? for example: Flights of the Mind (book), Pan's Labyrinth (film) etc.? or is there a box you can check off or something?
