Hi, my friend is looking into transferring to UCSD and there are a bunch of questions we have about how this works.
1. Do AP units count towards your total units (to help transfer earlier)
2. For nonCC transfers, is there a guarantee similar to the TAG? If not (probably not), what is considered a GPA that would be competitive to get in?
3. Regarding CC courses taken over summer (between college freshman and sophomore years), are those taken into account for GPA when trying to transfer?
4. Will ECs play as significant/more significant/less significant role when transferring as opposed to college freshman admissions?
5. Are there any other loose ends (recs?) that need to be addressed, and if so, is there a website with all of them?

Yeah AP's count as credit for classes. You should check with your school counselor so they can give you credit for them. You list them on your UC apps.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Where are you transferring from? UC/CSU/OOS? CC students are shown the most love, followed by the other 3.

You have to list all colleges attend and all courses taken, so they matter (if they are bad its up to you if you want to leave them out). I'm not sure if they are taken into account with your GPA. I'd check with your counselor.

Far less significant

If it's not a CC transfer, where is it from?

You know, I'm not exactly sure if these count as units or just as credit.

UCSD Transfer Requirements
· 60 UC-transferable semester units or 90 UC-transferalbe quarter units.
· Have a competitive GPA in UC-transferable courses and be in good academic standing. The average GPA for fall admitted transfer students is usually at least 3.4.
· UC subject eligibility:
2 UC-transferable courses in English composition;
1 UC-transferable course in math;
4 UC-transferable courses from two of the following three areas:
arts & humanities,
social & behavioral sciences,
physical & biological sciences.
· All admission requirements must be completed by the end of spring term prior to fall enrollment.

You should also finish your pre-major courses. Use assist.org to figure out which ones those are.

Most of the information online is written for CC transfer students so I'd tell your friend to check with a counselor to get everything straightened out. My friend transferred from Cal State Fullerton to UCI as a psychology major and I don't think his GPA was all that impressive. Probably just a little higher than a 3.0
