So I'm currently a freshman at SUNY New Paltz, and I have had thoughts on possible wanting to transfer for Fall 2011.

I'm in EOP right now, and if I were to apply to EOP at Binghamton, would I have to attend the summer program again?

How difficult is it to transfer into SOM? Because I'd like to major in Accounting, and know that Binghamton has a 5-year Accounting program.
Also, if I were to enter Undecided, would there be a chance that I can not be admitted into SOM after being a student?

What do you think is the "safe" gpa into possible becoming admitted.

And I'd appreciate any other advice on transferring. Thank you!

I’m not in EOP so I can’t answer anything about that but as for transferring to SOM in general…

It’s extremely difficult, whether you do it from a different university or a different school within Binghamton. Don’t expect to transfer to Harpur and then transfer to SOM the next semester. Even if you managed to get a transfer, it would take effect until the next fall and you’d most likely be behind in your required classes. If you insist on transferring to SOM, do so from the beginning.

As for GPA, get it as high as you possibly can. Take some classes you know would transfer to Bing and count for SOM or Gen Ed. requirements so you’re not totally behind.

Honestly, it’s your first semester as a freshman. You haven’t had a chance to get used to New Paltz or figure out if you truly hate it or not. Unless you know a lot of people at Bing who will be your friends immediately, transferring is hard because you have to start over. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you were truly unhappy.

I am pretty sure you wouldn’t have to do the summer program again but you would still get all the EOP benefits.
SOM is difficult to get into as a transfer. You need as high of GPA as possible (3.7ish) and a demonstrated interest in business. Harpur to SOM never happens so don’t bother:( If you only get into harpur and you still want a job after graduation you could try majoring in econ, financial econ or actuarial science.
