You do not need to transfer. Stanford is a subdivision of the Harvard College for adult and non-trad students. You get the same degree, just your Harvard transcript is going to say “Stanford school of general studies” instead of “Harvard College”.

Even if Harvard was accepting transfers don’t go into college with the plan to transfer. They are both amazing schools and in the end you may love Stanford. Plus, you want to transfer for the right reasons. I am currently trying to transfer from an elite all women’s liberal arts school and some people do not transfer from here for the right reasons, i.e. want to go to a coed school. My legitimate reason is that I want to study a major that is not offered at my school.

Another thing to think about is that it is ok to not get it right when choosing the right college, but you have to at least give it a chance. I got in early decision last year to my current school and I was soooo excited, but I did not realize until I was in college that I will benefit from a different environment that will challenge me more and that I really did not like any of majors I was considering. I came to college considering to be a political science or history major, I would take the minimum amount of science or math. Now I want to be a business major or if I stay at my current school I will be an Environmental Science major (so much for no science). Basically, what I am trying to say is that your first year of school might be difficult but you will learn a lot about your self and will open your eyes to the world.

1) Can I send a transfer application to more than one university? Someone told me that you can only apply to one university for transfer. I believe it’s not true.

2) Is it possible to transfer from a Canadian university (Queen’s for example), with a decent GPA, to a top ranked US university? An ivy maybe?

for your first question, that is THE MOST ABSURD THING I’VE EVER HEARD!!! you can apply to as many schools as you want so long as you have the money.

for your second question, there are international students that transfer all the time so i don’t know why Canada would be any different. However, you’d need a stellar GPA, not just a decent one. In addition, you need strong essays and consistency with your applications.

The only way you could go to Harvard University at this point would be through the Extension School, so your degree would NOT be from the college, you wouldn’t be taking many classes there, and you wouldn’t live on campus. Stay at Stanford.
