Questions about UCI? Ask them here!

@stallwart MESA! They are better. Way more convenient.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but how difficult is it to switch into one of the more impacted majors at UCI?

@danny5 lets just say that there is never a shortage of parties, basically if you want to party, you can find a party… Its not that hard if you know they right people. And yes, there are a lot of asians, and honestly, I was a little apprehensive about the amount as well. But, I have gotten used to it. One of my best friends from here is asian and I love her to death. Just keep an open mind and you will find your place here, where you fit in, and that you will love.

Do people still get admitted the last few batches? Or is it just rejections if I haven’t heard back yet

Okay so I was wondering, I most likely am going here for the fall (wasn’t my first choice) but I really want some kind of college experience. I’m not all for parties but I want to be able to be a part of them once in a while. Are frats/sororities good at uci? Are they worth joining?

I was admitted to engineering so two questions:
-How hard is it to switch majors in engineering (for me it would be from ME to Mat Sci E and EE double major)?
-Would an engineering double major at UCI be better than a Physics BS at UCSB for a job in R&D later on? I plan on grad school too if that matters. Sorry my questions are so specific! Thanks :)

My son has been admitted to UCI for Earth Systems. He is concerned about the large asian makeup of the campus. How competitive are the classes? I have heard from other individuals that on some campuses students will sabotage each other to get better grades. He is part Hispanic/White although he does not look Hispanic. He is quiet and studious so a quiet campus would be a good match. He will be living on campus even though we live about an hour away. We will be going to the CAMP open house April 13 to give him a better idea about UCI.

I have heard of such sabotage stories as well at UCI but I’ve never had it happen to me. I’ve always noted that people write their names on quizzes in discussion sections in pen so that others don’t erase them (though I’ve never seen anyone attempt to erase someone’s name). If you want an A you’re going to have to work pretty hard though.

UCI Business Admin, UCSD Econ, UCD Econ
In your opinion, which would you choose? Why?

I really am stuck on this.

ive been doing research on the dorms and im probably gnna go with Mesa. any recommendations or anything i should know about the dorming? coed?

also as far as the social scene there, i know everyone says youll have fun if you try to…but i dont want to put in a great deal just looking for fun. are there some parties i can easily find here and there? i was thinking of joining a sorority but it might be too expensive for me. i just want the full college experience nd have fun here and there.

with the whole asian population and everything (no offense to anyone) will i feel isolated? i mean im cool with them but i just dont like one group significantly dominating another. is the campus still diverse as far as other ethinicities/ types of people?

thank you!

Hi I’m going to be a freshman at uci next year majoring in undeclared engineering and then going into biomedical engineering. I have a question about housing, I’ve decided that I like Mesa better than middle earth but I heard that some freshman can live in campus village too. Do you recommend Mesa or campus village in terms of room size, community, proximatey to everything, cost, etc… Thanks :)

Can anyone tell me some of the “fun” classes offered at UCI? I just went on the campus tour and the guide told me they offer “the science of super heroes”. Are there any other interesting courses like that?

@Vanesshaa Join a sorority if you can!! It seriously adds to your college experience and definitely opens up doors! If you want to learn more about them private message me!

So… does anyone have a checklist of what to bring to SPOP this year?

Thanks!

For SPOP, can you come the first day, go home instead of sleeping there at night, and then come back in the morning for the second day?

^, I don’t see why not. I bet you can even avoid registering for SPOP, and just attend the important events (e.g. signing up for classes), and then bounce.

What happens at new student convocation?

Does anyone know how long it takes to get housing? I am on the graduate housing waitlist, I am an incoming junior (with child) so I am waiting to get a place in VP or PV for family housing.

Do you have to do a lot of presentations/speeches? In what classes do you have to do them?

Since you have gotten in to UCI i am just wondering what are my chances of UCI admitting me. I am going to be a senior now and so far i have a 4.2 in the UC grading scale. Although i do know that UCI only allows 8 extra points. However i got my first C in Ap English. I have done community work in good samaritan hospital, summer camp for kids, assistant basketball coach for kids, and i have started my own community service where we plant trees around LA. I am also involved in various clubs and i am even a Vice President/co-founder of one called philosophy club. For sports i have been in volleyball for 3 years straight and i am currently the captain. I have join the academic decathlon team. I am currently a captain in my airsoft team that i created. I also have job experience in an optical store and i currently run a chocolate selling business in my school where i have people working for me. I have a 490 in critical reading, 510 in math, and 450 in writing which totals to 1450. That was my first time taking the sat, and a 17 in my act. Also my first time. I am planning to retake it to get a much higher score. I am deeeply concerned of how the C will effect my admission.
