Hey everyone, I'm filling out my UC application and I had some questions for some students, may be you can help? let's see.

1) How is the economics department at UCSB? Are you able to get very many internships etc. Is it very math oriented? Etc.

2) How are the cops at UCSB? This sounds really weird, but my brother goes to UCLA and when he went to visit UCSB with some of his friends he said the cops were really paranoid and stuff. Are they known to give out a ton of MIPs( Minor in Possessions) or possession of you know what? hahaha

If you guys know the answers to these questions I would love to hear them, thanks!

As for the second, I would say no, the cops aren’t really paranoid about drinking. Really, they know people here like to party and that many of us are drinking. They’re not out on a mission to annihilate anyone with alcohol. However, you have to be smart about it. If you are obvious about your activities, they will get you. Cops are out all the time on weekends and they know what everyone on the streets is doing or is planning on doing, but like I said, they don’t get you unless you’re obvious.

Most UCSB students know how to avoid the cops. Once you get here, you’ll find numerous tips on how to stay on their better side, even if you are drinking. Out-of-towners (like your brother), on the other hand, are notorious for their bad luck with our law enforcement. They usually don’t know how things work around here.

As for “that other thing,” I don’t think that one is too big a deal either. The emphasis is more on alcohol. Just don’t be stupid about it.
