Questions about umd and switching into engineering

Hi. I had a few questions about umd. I applied for engineering but was admitted to letters and sciences.

  1. With AP credits in physics C and BC calc how soon can I switch in? 1 semester or do i have to wait an entire year.
  2. I think I Read somewhere that there was a class for undecided engineering freshman. Is there any way to take that as a letters and science student?

3.after switching into engineering do I Imminently have to declare a major? Currently i’m not quite sure of which engineering major to persue.

  1. Is there anywhere where i can see a comparision of a typical freshman engineering student schedule and a freshman letter of science student whi wants to switch into engineering schedule?

Thank you so much to whoever ends up answering these questions.

@HCXCBE - @maryversity is the engineering expert on here, but I can give you some info.

This link is about LEPs in general

This is a link specific to the engineering LEP

You will have to complete the gateway courses listed. They are the EXACT same courses that the engineering freshman take. You would very likely be in the same class as them.

I don’t know anything about declaring majors in engineering.

Good Luck

  1. You can apply the first semester you will have all your gateway requirements completed
  2. Some classes are restricted to engineering students, and if you are referring to ENES 181 Dialogue with the Dean, that is unfortunately restricted
  3. You absolutely do not need to declare which discipline you want to major in right away, but need to do so by end of third semester
  4. The four year academic plans for all of the disciplines can be found here http://www.eng.umd.edu/advising/four-year-plan. Note that you only need to look at the GenEd Academic Plans as the core curriculum has been phased out.
