Questions about UMKC BA/MD Program

I am currently a high school junior looking into the BA/MD program at UMKC. I am in an early entry to college program in Kansas, so I have just completed my first semester of courses at Fort Hays State University. My main question is whether or not the program is worth it. I am interested in cardiothoracic surgery and have heard that UMKC med students have trouble placing into their desired residencies. I have also seen that the program is very expensive and am having a hard time seeing how it can be worth that much, with relatively few scholarship opportunities. I know I want to go into medicine and would like to hear from someone who is in or has gone through the program.

Current stats:

ACT: 32 (will take again)
GPA (high school and college): 3.97 / 4.46
GPA (college): 3.82
College Credit: Government, Chem 1 and lab, comp 1/2, precalc, research and writing…will have 68 hours by graduation

I believe that I will also qualify as a National Merit Semifinalist and later become a finalist. With that, I was also looking into the University of Oklahoma NMF scholarship and medical school. Information regarding that would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

@jlutgen15 Wonderful you have made a jump start to know BS/MD programs and already enrolled in college while in high school. GL. But would recommend to review 2 threads and post there than creating a new thread. For UMKC, there are 2 or 3 folks like @Roentgen are who are doing an immense job of providing knowledge and helping every one. So take time and read every post there. Also note you need to review individual college program to ensure that you meet the requirements (I vaguely remember some programs will not make it eligible if you have already certain number of college credits). It is true UMKC costs close to a half a million and not sure if that is worth but it depends on individual perspectives and their back ground. Here are the 2 threads you should follow

  1. UMKC 6-year BS/MD program
  2. Official thread for 2016 BSMD program

@GoldenRock Thank you very much for your reply. I am able to get around most of the stipulations about credit hours because they were not taken after graduation of high school, rather as dual-enrollment as a high school student. I will be sure to check out those other threads.
