I am hoping to go to usf as a freshmen fall of 2012. I am out of state in indiana and plan to visit sometime in december. Is that a good or bad time to visit? Can I schedule a visit? How do I do that? Also, can anyone tell me what the school is like. Are the dorms nice? How are the people and professors? Is there alot of crime in tampa? What is there to do in free time? And are there many hurricanes? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with visiting December other than not too many students will be on campus during winter break toward end of December between fall and spring terms. Phone the admissions office at 813-974-3350 for tour info. Too, leaf through threads on this site for USF info too–many of your questions are already addressed. Good Luck!

We haven’t had a hurricane in years… And even if we did, there are many safety precautions taken on campus to ensure your safety.

The campus tours are always nice, but definitely be sure to tour around Tampa while you’re down here to. Tampa is an interesting place, but like every college town you’ve got your good places and your not so good places, but unlike Gainesville or Tallahassee there’s tons more you can do and explore.

More specifically about the campus, I love it. We are currently finishing up with some renovations and construction of additional facilities, so life on campus will definitely be an improvement by the time you arrive as a Bull. We have an all new and improved athletic district which includes new baseball, softball, and soccer stadiums, a newly expanded and renovated gymnasium, an additional dining hall, a new music building (I love the concerts), new gigantic interdisciplinary building, and the Sun Dome (where we have our basketball and volleyball games) has been newly renovated and expanded. Not to mention some awesome new landscaping. There is currently a new initiative to create an even deeper USF presence in Tampa, so there is much to be excited about… Plus, the Holtz new era in football!

Josh is right about all the terrific improvements on campus. The Sun Dome $35 million dollar renovation project is underway now but won’t be finished until next spring, in time for graduation ceremonies spring 2012! The brand new basketball practice facility popout being added to the southside of the Sun Dome is almost completely finished though; it will be finished way before the big Sun Dome job which is underway now. The volleyball team will play home games in the rec center while Sun Dome is worked on this coming season and home basketball games I’m pretty sure will be played downtown Tampa in the Forum.

That all sounds great. Thanks for the info. Just applied today. Wish me luck!
