Hey I’m an upcoming junior in high school and use to be interested in Wake Forest. I loved the idea of how they do not look at ACT/SAT scores considering my gpa is a decent 4.3 but have a 24 on the ACT. However, it’s still very competitive, and I have heard the price was moved up to 80k which is “just a little” too much. I also heard it’s called “work forest” because the students work their butts off and many of them receive C’s due to how hard their teachers grade. So if I could get some feedback that would be pretty nice. Thanks.

Im a current student and have heard nothing about our cost of attendance going up to 80k, a 16k jump is not likely. “Work Forest” is not a myth. We work hard. I mean we have comparable workload to other rigorous universities, but you will have more work than you would at your state school. Making a ‘C’ in college isnt the end of the world, especially here. But a good GPA is attainable and (in my opinion) not hard at all if you put in the work
@shahbrah23 I have been lucky to study and work with several top 25 schools and had friends go to many others. Wake Forest is a lot of work, it’s possible that our grade inflation is slightly lower than others’ grade inflation, but that statement and that of the fact we work more are often made but I have yet to see any great evidence of it other than the bluster of current students (including me when I was there). Bottom line is you want to work hard because it means that you feel an incentive to study and feel that someone cares that you do. As for cost, Wake is absurdly expensive, but most likely it’s a similar cost to all the other schools you’re looking at. If you’re low-income, they’ll probably take care of you, if you are lucky AND smart, you may get merit-scholarships, if your family shows up as high-income, you may have to pay a lot. Either way, you have to get accepted first to make the choice. Good luck. I had a great experience and it served as a great launching pad for my career. Choosing a college is a great luxury, not the most important decision you’ll make in life. Whatever happens, I hope you find a college that you choose to make a great home for you! #GoDeacs!
