Questions abt freshmen admission/transferring classes

I've decided to apply as a freshmen to one of many UC schools in California based on the fact that my cc transcript is less than stellar. I will most likely repeat the classes I didn't do so well in and see how that goes.

Question: Is it wise to apply as a freshmen since it's a chance to start over AND be able to get into a good university?

2)Is it possible to "pick" certain classes to transfer units from a cc to the UC schools? For example, I just want to transfer this, this, and that but not the other grades?

I feel at the age of 20 that I've wasted enough time slacking off and that I'm truly ready to start my academic career. I honestly feel like a failure having started so late. If you need some background: my high school career went well until senior year when I started slacking off and didn't do so well. My senior grades weren't the greatest but my GPA wasn't horrid. I got accepted into the only school I applied to -- SFSU but hated it so I left after a year. I decided to go to the local cc to start over and transfer from but since a business venture came up and the fact that I was living at home again, I started slacking off again (alot of W's with a couple of Ds but I can make those Ds up). I'm just about ready to start afresh but feel that by applying as a freshmen, that I'd be alot older than I should be when I should have graduated (which would have been 2007).

I'm planning on retaking the SAT since my score wasn't so great either. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I really don't know how to answer to most of this, but I will tell you that when many schools transfer in credits, you receive credit for the course, but the grades are not factored into your GPA.

Also, many schools won't accept a transfer of credit if you received below a C, so you may have already "self selected" which courses you need to take again.

can anyone else help?
