Don’t worry about what the other girl may think. Your grade is a ton more important. And since you were in the same class before, maybe now you have something you can talk to her about. Who knows, she may even be in the same situation as you.

lol @123321

howd u know i was talking about him? lol oh nvm i guess i forgot to erase the last hahlbeck. oh well. yeah he definitely did not teach me much. i guess the one example he does a day helped, but i think he couldve gone a little bit faster and gotten a little more done in 1 hour. 1 example is not really enough. and i think his “teaching style” doesnt suit a lot of ppl. he just sucks at teaching. he acts like he wants ppl to get with him or sumthin (since he’s young)

@ntks

well the other grl is kinda a biitch. its kinda a sticky situation, PM me if u want to know the exact details…actually ill just PM u lol for the sake of no one knowing who i am.

Cal Poly offers 1-credit support classes to supplement math classes. My daughter took one last quarter to get her through Calc II, and she was so happy she did! She had extra help on anything she didn’t understand, they worked through the homework assignments, did practice quizzes and tests. As a parent, I was thrilled that Poly offers this option to those who may not be math whizzes (she is an Arch student) to help them succeed.

She only wishes they had the same thing for physics!

where do you find the support classes in the catalog? do you happen to know if they offer them for stats?

I’m not sure if the support classes are offered for stats. My daughter said they tell the students the first day of class if there is that option.

OK thank you

well i went to a free tutoring for math thing and the 3 ppl that were working there didnt know how to do calculus 2. so then i just got together with 2 friends and one was really smart but she kinda went to fast…i also got a tutor but he did all the problems for me (wich was fine) but he went fast too.

my friend is applying to csu cal poly san luis obispo but just sent his sat scores today 1/11 when the deadline was 12/1, what are his chances of getting in?

^ chances are lower than if he actually did things on time. they have a ca-\zillion applicants, its stupid to send stuff late if you really want to go. everyone else did it on time

Have your friend call Admissions. I have found them to be responsive and helpful.

When do incoming freshman register for their fall classes? How does the process work?

Freshman are blocked into their fall quarter classes during SOAR and will have priority registration. You do not need to attend SOAR to get your classes. Your major’s dept will do that for you. It’s part of Cal Poly’s plan to get students to graduate in a timely manner.

Be aware of the classes they block you into…check them carefully against your major’s curriculum. For instance, they didn’t block my son into any math classes at all and he’s an engineering major. I had my son call the department to add calculus I . By blocking the classes…you’ll get to change your schedule/classes around only during open registration via CPreg.

thanks rxcat85. A few follow-ups.

 1. Does an advisor from the major dept consult with the student before doing the block?
 2. When they do the block, do they account for AP credits. I noticed twoclasses in the freshman block for my daughter’s major are classes she has passed AP tests for.
 3. If a student gets into the honors program, would they also account for that in selecting some of the GE classes?
 4. At the SOAR registration, do they register just for the fall term, or the whole frsshman year?

The advisors don’t consult with students before blocking the schedule. They should account for AP credits, but what credits you get depend on what score you received on the AP exam. If you get into the honors program, you can register for the honors classes that are offered, so you’ll have a better chance of getting into certain classes, but there aren’t a ton of GE’s that I know of that are offered as honors classes. At SOAR you don’t actually register. You learn about how to register and then do it later in the summer from home. You only register for one quarter at a time, not the entire year.

A score of 3 or better is required on each exam to get credit for AP classes and they do take them into account when scheduling your classes. For instance, my son was placed into Calc 2 and given credit for Physics without any input from him before his first semester. You will be able to verify this on your mycalpoly site.

One thing is not clicking for me. What is the point of SOAR teaching freshman how to register, if freshman have their first quarter picked as a block by their major advisor?

I’m asian and I have a question about the Asian population at SLO. According to the sites, it’s about 11% asian at SLO. However, some of my white friends at SLO say they never see them around on campus.

1) Do asians tend to hang out with other asians?

2) Whats the Korean population like?

Thanks

Mariner116, because they may well want to change something and they certainly have to know the registration process for subsequent quarters when it is not done for them.

yeah i rarely see asians around campus as well. i mean…i usually see 1 after passing 20 ppl during the busy hours. however, i havent seen a big group of asians hanging out with each other but my friend who was chinese and she said that her dorms had a couple asians and her roommate was too.

if u want a big asian population, u wont really get it here. and thats why i kind of want to move to a bigger city. the diversity is much more phenomenal in LA and NY. or even SF < lots there.
