Hey, I just got into the liberal arts and science at Depaul, but I’m having second thoughts. Is it possible to switch into the school of commerce upon my freshmen year? Also, is it possible to double major from both the school of commerce and maybe something from liberal arts and science? Last question is how many of the accepted students get the Scholars’ award scholarship (just out of curiosity)?

I was wondering. I have already been accepted to the Honors Program and was wondering if they will put me in a specific honors dorm or whatever. I already applied for housing before entering the Honors Program and was wondering if I needed to be in a specific dorm for Honors

@ygil11 - You can email ugrad admissions and they can have it changed for you. Regarding a double major in commerce and LAS, it is permitted as far as I know.

@stumpy - DePaul does not have an honors dorm but I believe they’re in the process of designating one. However, DPU does have an honors floor on Seton Hall and I’d recommend that to you.

Hi! I was accepted to DePaul and am going to visit sometime soon and was just wondering about the ‘social atmosphere’ of the school… Do you feel like there is a good community feeling among the students at DePaul? I’m really looking for a strong college community and think it may be the one thing holding me back from DePaul, or maybe I just have the wrong impression. Thanks in advance!

@stckmn11 - The Strobel honors program and university honors program are different. The Strobel program is strictly accounting, although you’re not required to major in accounting if you’re in Strobel (although I don’t see why you wouldn’t). The University honors program replaces your gen ed requirements such as world lit, religions, history, etc. I’m in both and I haven’t found it to be overly rigorous, however I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t rigorous. You must take a methodical approach but it’s definitely manageable.

@katmariel - DePaul has a pretty good social atmosphere, especially considering it’s located in Chicago. However, if you’re looking for a school that’s very spirited in terms of sports and such, DePaul is lacking. Personally, I chose DePaul because of the career opportunities that come with it and I expected the school spirit to be lacking so I’m not too surprised. That’s not to say that there is no school spirit; most students dress in DePaul attire and are proud to be a Blue Demon BUT the lack of a football team and having an atrocious basketball team has made it increasingly difficult for the students at DePaul that care, which most do. Anyways, it really depends on what you’re looking for, I guess.

In hindsight I probably didn’t give you a comprehensive answer to your question. In terms of the social atmosphere (aside from our sports teams), DePaul has a good mixture of students living on campus and commuters. As a commuter, it’s tough to say how campus life would be but my friends seem to enjoy it.

Do you like the quarter system?I heard some people complain about it,the classes are moving too fast, besides there isn’t enough time to make friends…

The quarter system is fine. Personally, I haven’t had a problem with it. My high school ran on the semester system and my success at the HS level has translated pretty well.

How easy or hard is it to make friends? Coming from oos and not knowing anyone, the social scene is the only thing that scares me about depaul. Also, I’m kinda into partying, Are there many options when it comes to apartment or house parties? Do you go to parties at any of the other chicago area universities?

I have an admissions question. I’m a transfer student considering applying to DePaul, but my gpa is only 2.5. I know that is the minimum gpa to get into commerce. The thing is I have an f on my transcript and am in the process of retaking the class but my semester won’t be over until may. Should I wait until my current semester is finished to apply? Failing that class really bombed my gpa. It was a 3.3 before then. The deadline for transfers is august.

@goblue - It’s very easy to make friends. I also came from OOS and did not have a problem making friends. In terms of partying, I don’t party because I’m a commuter but most of my friends are very involved in the party scene. I believe students of Loyola, DePaul, and UIC sometimes party together.

@Hailiemath - I would wait until your semester is over. You would have a much better chance with a 3.0+.

Ya I got you, I’ve been waiting for awhile and it’s killin me waiting for a letter or anything at this point. Campus Connection isn’t very helpful either.

Are there internships all over the country? I am from NYC and would prefer to have internships in my home city. I have also never been to Chicago, so I have no idea what the city is like and what places are safe and not safe, so that is another reason I would rather do internships at home.

I know you commute but perhaps you know someone who lives in Seton or Centennial. Is living right next to the L bothersome due to the noise? Do they even hear the train from their dorm room?

@hailiemath - You can certainly get internships in NYC from DePaul, although most, if not all, on-campus recruiting is directed towards the Chicago land area. You can still get internships in NYC, although you would have to apply online or visit their offices during your time there.

@littlemonsters - I have friends who live in Seton (not Centennial) who have never complained about the noise of the L. I don’t think that would be a problem.

Hey i have a question, i’m still waiting on a letter and i’m wondering if you’re admitted does it show on your campus connect account before you get your letter? Or does it show after you get the package? i’m just going crazy i applied regular decision and i haven’t gotten a letter at all.
