Questions + Chance Me

I've applied for a Biotechnology major, and I was considering doing a dual major with Finance, or switching to a Bioengineering major and Finance minor (I want to get into the management/financial aspect of the pharma/biotech industry). Would doing a dual major between Finance and Biotechnology be manageable?

Also, for some reason when I review my application is shows an email address different from the one that I entered. Does UF send important information like account username/password and SSN to email addresses when it confirms that you have applied? I received a receipt of application to my email but I'm scared that the other email address (and thus another person) would be receiving vital emails while I am not.

I’ve never heard of a biotechnology major, it doesn’t seem to be listed on ISIS either. So to give you better advice I’ll need to know a little more about what that is.

Usually dual majoring with engineering is… a challenge. Most engineering degrees take 4-5 years, so unless you wanna take extra time to graduate it’s not that doable.

From the credentials you posted, you’ll get in, I have no doubt.

Do you have a strong science background? Because the biotech track is the most difficult biology track. And if you’re looking to be on the financial side of things it seems to me you don’t have to have such an intensive science background… the biotechnology track is very much geared towards doing lab work. I would think a finance major/bio minor would make more sense?

I would be very surprised if you did not get in. Out of curiosity, are you planning to do the honors program?

Eden, yes if I do get in I plan on doing the honors program. Why do you ask?

^Just wondering, because I have not decided yet. My friends think it would be a mistake and that I would have to sacrifice my social life, but I like the idea of getting first choice for classes and a private bathroom :)

^ Being in the Honors program doesn’t affect your social life in any way. Being in “Honors” simply requires that you replace a total of four “regular” courses with “Honors” courses during your first two years at UF. In my experience, the Honors courses have actually been easier than their “regular” counterparts.

^Really? That’s good to know. And if for any reason I didn’t like the honors program, would it be a hassle to get out?

If you are in the honors program, you are not required to take those four honors classes. If you do not complete them, you simply wont get a certificate.

If your email listed is NOT YOUR EMAIL, call them and straighten this out.

^Yup I emailed them and I got a very quick response. Thanks!

Eden, honors students get private bathrooms!? How are the honors dorms, and what other amenities do honors students receive?
