Questions (Clueless intl)

Hi I have a couple of questions about standarized testing:
1-) How important toefl is for intl? Do they count as much as the sat's? Or is it just to be sure that u're fluent in english? It might sound as a dumb question but there's a toefl preparation course and the guy says that they're AS important as the sat's. I want to know if is true or if it's just another sad marketing strategy..
2-) If u have an above average score (in the college's standard) but a waaay below average math score but u're going to major in humanities is it your sat's screwed up?

Well...thanks for answering...bye!

Yes... I have international questions too and no ones answering them. Here was mine, hopefull someone will answer all of ours:

As I've been reading around CC and looking at all these people who ask for their chances to be evaluated, I can't help but notice that they have A LOT of extracurriculars. I go to an international school in germany, and we don't have 99.9%of the extracurriculars that the American schools offer.

So my question: Do American colleges take into consideration the different attitude towards/availability of ECs abroad?

I'm not trying to get an excuse for being lazy the last 3 years. I've joined my school's only sports team, only politics team (Model UN), and tried to continue playing an instrument (moved here from michigan after freshman year).

Any international students who have been admitted know?

1] i think it's to see how you will adjust to all-english speaking education..it shouldn't matter very much if you're competent in english and get a good score. I would worry more about your grades and test scores.

2] didn't quite understand your question...from what i see it seems like you have a good critical reading/writing score, but a crappy math score. it really depends on whichever schools you want to apply to. most ivy applicants have generally 700~750 in each of the sections of SAT. state schools tend to range very widely, from 600~700+. UC schools tend to be more harsh on internationals.

but beside the matter, you should get as high a score as you can get in every single section. more choices to you.

as for the EC question...i don't know...maybe you can explain it in the "additional information" section, or even call the school and ask the admissions officer directly.
