I apologize this was the most concise I could be & if I potentially sound dumb, please dont be rude. I'm trying to edit it for top-tier schools.

Although I want to do pre-med/become a doctor I want to show Im well-rounded in other more artistic areas(besides just academics) & that I can also grow much further in these skills, too (if I was able to get lessons- I come from a low-income family). Ive done volunteer work that relates to the medical field, but I know schools look for diversity.

So if you know have at least substantial/above average (not extraordinary) skills in things like poetry, music, art, etc. but you haven't won/gotten recognized for anything in high school, is that still worth mentioning in a resume?

My high school didnt offer many opportunities like contests.. and using creativity for class projects doesnt count in a resume. Most of my artsy & karate awards were in middle school.

So my questions are:

Question 1: How far back can your list of extracurricular accomplishments can go in a resume?
- Soo winning your elementary schools spelling bee is too far back and but how about winning middle school poetry contests? Or even an independent study that your teacher in which she had chosen her best students, is that something you can mention?

Question 2: Using my independent study ex., do I HAVE to mention dates?
- Could I talk what my independent study was about and what was produced from it?

So if I made a resume and just put something like:

Distinctions/Honors/Awards:
*Attended Young Author Conferences
*Won school poetry contests
*etc
would that be okay?
