Questions/concerns from an accepted student

Hey so I was accepted to UMich and it's my top choice but of course its definitely the most expensive by far out of the 3 choices that I am deciding between. I just had some questions/concerns if anybody could answer any of the following, that would be great! Thanks

Is the north campus really that bad if you get stuck on it freshman year? I know I saw that buses were always running back and forth, I'm guessing it takes 20-30min to get onto central campus. Do they get annoying?

Also do you like the academic calendar or the weather? I know I would like a longer christmas break considering the winter is pretty long at Michigan and it seems that its nice only a few months of the school year.

Do you work VERY hard at UMich, is it that difficult to do well? I know it's a very good school but I'm not sure if I want to spend so much of my time on school work and studying in order to do well like I did in high school which is something I'm worried about at Michigan.

And also do most people move off campus sophomore year, and do they usually use a car or not?

can anybody help me out here? thanks

The friends I know at Michigan, say that the classes are fairly difficult. I heard that the average GPA for a student in LSA is like a 3.1.

When I stayed with my sibling on North (Bursley), I did not find it annoying at all to get onto Central. It took about 10-15 minutes and you can use a website or an app for your phone to tell you when the bus will be there so you don’t need to wait for the cold. She wasn’t bothered by it at all, and it didn’t seem that big of a deal to me, but I guess a lot of people do make that complaint.

Next year, she will be moving off campus.

That’s all the perspective I can personally give you.

thanks guys. is it relatively easy to take a bus from off campus housing onto main campus

The academic calendar is nice, in a sense. There are no real breaks and you may feel burnt out by th end of the year, but you’ll be out early comapared to the rest of your friends.

My son goes to UMich - I’d be inclined to say most don’t find they need a car in AA and many don’t move off campus in sophomore year – but you can also get on-campus apartments on north campus that include parking.
For workload - your mileage may vary depending on your major/school. Engineers always seem pretty busy as there is a lot of team work. I believe the LSA average is 3.2; ENG is 2.9. But it’s not where fun goes to die (which is what they say about Chicago  ) But unless you have a photographic memory, speed read, and write perfect essays on the first draft (or insert major related task) you won’t likely find it a cakewalk.
