I have 2 questions.
I was reading the Amissions Booklet and it said that 4th class cadets are only allowed to wear civilian clothes when the Commandant approves? Has that happened yet for any of you guys? Is there a certain time that it generally happens? Second question, I play golf for fun and I read that the academy has 2 courses. As a fouth class when would I be able to bring my golf clubs, would I store them there?

Civvies ONLY during leave periods (service dress in transit) and none here till after recognition (March). The exception is ski club, while on the trip and in transit, civvies are approved.

You are welcome to play golf here and you can store your clubs in your room.

I heard the swimming team is the tougest team to get into at the AFA? Is this true, Im on the swimming team in my high school. I'm only a sophomore so hopefully by my senior year ill be good enough for the USAFA swimming team, my fast time as 50yds free 38 seconds

"You are welcome to play golf here and you can store your clubs in your room."

Does the same apply for biking, running, etc? Also, since 4 degrees must stay at the academy, does that mean that they must stay in the cadet area, or can they go for a run outside the cadet area, etc?

Biking I'm unsure about. I believe you can get a bike slot down in the quads. Running...yes you can leave the cadet area as long as you're on base. There are many trails. It's awesome to run on top of a small ridge and check out the scenery. Basically, you can run just about anywhere you can find on base!

Hey guys I wondering if in the dorm hall there is a rec room? like ping pong etc? or is there only Arnies?

At arnold hall there is the "alley" which has video games, pool tables, board games, etc. You have to pay for the pool and video games, which basically sucks. Some squads have ping-pong, TV's, pool tables in their SAR's (Squadron Assembly room) so there are some things.

Unfortunately, Four digs. are technically not allowed to use the SARs, but you might find a nice squad.

The only thing I think of when I hear SARS is Sudden Acute Resperatory Syndrome. hahaha :) That's kinda funny.

I got a principal nomination from my congressman, so do I need to contact my state's senators to let them know that I won't be requesting a nomination from them anymore? Or is that automatically taken care of?

Call and ask them what to do. I got a nomination from my senator, and already recieved my appointment, but was told to still show up at my congressman's interview. Still don't know why, probably had something to do with scheduling.

Also, is there a bus or something to help you get around base, for example, if you are sick and have to go to the hospital that is still on base but outside the cadet area, and don't feel like walking? When I was at Summer seminar, I saw buses coming to certain places regularly. Is this what that was?

My understanding is the bus goes to the Airfield from the base of the ramp and vans leave from the clinic for the hospital. There really aren't too many reasons as a freshman to need to leave the cadet area for. If you're sick, you're probably gonna first go to the clinic which is in the cadet area. The only time I've really seen people go straight to the hospital is for like emergencies and that's gonna mean either an ambulance or borrowing someone's car.

I got my senatorial nomination in november. Then I called my congressman's office seeing if I should still go to the interview. They said no, since I had a nom they wouldn't give me one, so I didn't go. Then they give me one in december...odd.

There is base buses. ALSO there is base transit. You call them up and they pick you up at the cadet clinic, then they can take you anywhere, just tell them where to go. I use that for going to the hospital if I shadow a doctor.

Are there any Martial Arts teams at the Academy?

There are several. Two Karate, one Taekwondo, an Aikido, and a couple others I believe.

i have a very importnat question? does the academy like if your part of two different sports teams but the same sport. for example, im in my schools varsity swimming team, and outside school im in another swimming team. that way i have more practice and i can workout more, but if its the same sport does the academy consider it one point on my application?

Thank you Hornetguy! I know that there's an intramural participation requirement at the Academy...would being on one of the karate teams work? And do they compete? Thanks for the quick reply!

Iono if you guys or care, but how much r u guys actually making per a month? like it says 825 or something close to that, but I was reading the application book/catalog and from what I gathered alot of that money was being taken before you ever got your hands on it to pay for things? Just curious ;) .

excuse me, can someone please answer my question? this is the second time i ask a question and i go ignored? please can anyone help me

We actually see about $100 per month during our 4* year, but that will increase (about double 3* year, then go to full pay).

c/falcon - I don't know. Starting with that, they may see it as additional extracurriculars. Maybe the school one is points as school athletics, then your out of school one is extracurricular. But none of us actually know. Sorry.

Saratia, I don't think you can do it as an intermural. You need to do a team type sport usually. They do compete I believe, not all though. I don't have specific details, I decided to take a break from my martial arts. 10 years, 5+ tournament seasons, judging seminars, blah blah blah later, I like a break. ;) But you can fulfill your needs in the clubs I'm sure.
