Hey everybody,

I was accepted to the WP Carey School of Business (Management) and also Barrett Honors College. I’m kind of confused. I’ll obviously be living in the Barrett dorms, but am I getting an honors management degree? Since I was admitted to WP, am I simply just taking the classes I would take there with other Barrett kids or what?

Sorry for the questions. I am just really confused.

It really depends. Some classes are offered for honors only, but there are “contracts” with your professors also. It’s when you talk to them and basically they give you extra work or an extra project. One recruiter that I talked to said for one class she got to meet with her professor for coffee and they just talked about what was going on in the course. Your main honors class will be the human event class. Hope that helps!

W.P. Carey is probably has the best relationship with the honors college on campus. Every beginning level business class has an honors section and is only available to honors students (these are capped at around 30 students). You have the choice of taking these classes, or the regular business classes, as long as you fulfill the 36 honors credit requirement by graduation. Three types of honors classes: HON prefix (set up by the honors college), footnote 19 (regular classes with an honors section), or footnote 18 (where you make a contract with the professor delegating your extra work for the class). You will be graduating with a management degree with honors.

I’m a junior honors business student at ASU. Message me if you have any more questions.

Can you share your general stats? How can someone gauge if they have a shot at Barrett’s – any ACT or SAT score cut off?

Also do you have a sense of how the budget cuts will affect Barrett’s or Carey?

Thanks!

i got in with a 29 act and 4.1 gpa. i know the average act is 29 but i don’t remember the rest. check their website

thanks, nso, anyone else?

on website it says avg. sat is 1320, act 29, and UW GPA 3.8.

^ thanks.
Does anyone know if Barrett’s leans toward a more “holistic” or numbers driven approach?

from their website:

The incoming freshmen class of 2007 numbered 677 with an average SAT of 1320 (math and verbal sections only), an average composite ACT of 29 and an unweighted GPA of 3.79. High-achieving students with lower numbers should still consider applying as the application is quite comprehensive and allows the selection committee to factor in many other considerations…

Budget cuts are likely to not affect Barrett other than University-wide changes such as tuition increases. Barrett programs and services are extremely unlikely to be affected.

I got in with a 1440 SAT and 3.72 UW GPA, If your stats are lower than you think they should be apply early, they have a rolling admission process with a “priority deadline” looking at the success of many of my peers applying this year. Some numerically less qualified students got in because they applied early while more qualified students who applied on the deadline did not because of space issues. Applying early will give you the best chance.

Great advice! Thanks.
