Questions - Exeter?

If you are interested in something (such as economics) but a class isn’t offered until you are an upper or senior, can u still be in the club?

Depending on the club, it will meet a different number of times per term. Things like math club and the Exonian meet every week (sometimes multiple times a week for hours at a time) - those are the clubs where attendance is pretty much required of you want to be an active member. Other clubs will only meet a few times a term.

Sports practices are four times a week, but games are on Wednesday or Saturday afternoons.

I’m pretty sure anyone can join most clubs - I have a friend who’s a prep who is in the engineering club.

I don’t really know why I’m asking questions seeing as I’m not applying lol but I assume most of the other top tier schools will be similar.
Can preps work on the Exonian?

Yeah, while all schools will different, they probably work in a way similar to Exeter.
Umm I think so. There are people who go to one meeting, and just write one article, others who contribute more often. Most of the editorial and executive staff is taken by upperclassmen, but I know many preps who have contributed to the Exonian.

Is it true that those who work in the Exonian are somewhat fanatics? xD

haha probably. The Exonian and math club are supposedly to two most intense clubs on campus. I can only speak for math club though :)

There are also some clubs that dont meet at all cough cough pirate ninja alliance and ultimate muffin club. Oh and about physics i think this year there are 46 preps in physics

Why would a prep choose physics over bio? Is it indicative of ability or purely personal choice?

ARE YOU SERIOUS? There’s a pirate ninja alliance and ultimate muffin club? Okay, I am really loving Exeter right now, haha.

Regurgitating a question I had on the Andover board-- how hard is it to start a club/campaign as an underclassman? And do you need faculty guidance?

Its personal choice. I had taken bio the year before and I really didn’t like it so I decided to take physics

theres also Muggles In Denial for all the HP fans :D

Some people just want to take physics prep year. Others want to take an accelerated science their prep year (preps can accelerate for physics, but I think it’s unusual for a prep to take lower bio). Also, lower bio is harder than prep bio, so a person taking physics prep year would take intro to physics and lower bio, while a person taking bio prep year would take intro to bio and intro to physics.

omg muggles in denial! so cool

Muggles in Denial! Amazing! ahh

What do you know about theater? Like, do the kids who do it have more/less free time, etc. I don’t know specifically really what I’m asking, I just want to hear about it. :)

Yes, Muggles in Denial is also a real club. There are so many wonderful club. I’m actually part of Surf Club. There are also clubs like Random Acts of Kindness, Magic Club, Anime Club and a lot more.

Apparently, some teachers suggested that if you have a strong math background, you should take physics during your prep year. There are also rumors that Bio during lower year is a lot harder, that’s why some preps choose to take it prep year.

How much contact do you have with your middle school/public school friends?

in the beginning/end of the year do they take trips to Hampton Beach/ The Coast?

I am well in touch with my friends from back home. Skype is a very popular thing around campus. Also, there are so many other ways to keep in touch like texting, calling, e-mailing (haha) and social networking. You have a lot of time to keep in touch with them and update them about your current life.

I’m not sure about end-of-the-year trips. Some dorms do them, others don’t. Also, the beach is within the 10-mile radius restriction (i worded that weirdly), so you can go whenever you want…if you have transportation.

I still talk with some of my middle school friends, but not as much now. (I did go back and visit my old school for a day over Thanksgiving break, though.)
I definitely talk to my Exeter friends a lot more now - I basically live with them!

I’m not sure how many trips there are, but I know there are some trips to Boston and New York. You can also just take a train with a few friends to Boston for the weekend if you wanted (I think).

My dorm went to the beach on Academy Life Day - and because its in a ten-mile radius of Exeter, you could go whenever you wanted to.

:) sweetness. I love Hampton Beach
