Questions - Exeter?

Do you know anything about theater, hannah?

ooh! I do! I was in the mainstage production fall term.

Exeter has three main productions every year. Fall production is usually a drama, winter is usually a musical and spring is comedy. (Notice how I said usually, and for fall and spring it might be the other way around)

Exeter also has a club called DRAMAT that has several small productions.

Sorry, I know nothing about theater haha
but thingslost and asiankid29 do! ^^

It’s not a musical this winter, stupid budget cuts… It’s some weird romeo and juliet -esque sappy stuff… DRAMAT is pretty awesome. You can participate in every aspect of theatre, directing, acting, managing, etc… There are quite a lot of DRAMAT productions each term and they’re really good too!

are there intro to dance classes? if so are they ECs/ what do they have?

They do have intro to dance, advanced dance and several dance clubs like belly dancing, step, hip-hop, etc. Advanced Dance can be taken as a P.E. credit and the dance clubs/groups are ECs. I’m not sure about Intro to Dance. you MIGHT be able to take it for P.E. credit, but I think someone has mentioned to me that it doesn’t count.

If i just play lacrosse and I train in the fall and winter, is there any way the person who teaches me would let me do my running/lifting during the P.E. period as long as it was approved by them and they made sure I was getting a sufficient work out?

As a lower, you can take Intro to Fit for P.E. credit.

How hard would it be to start a new club as an underclassman? And would you need faculty guidance?

Also, is it possible to excel at Exeter and do absolutely NO sports outside of PE?

Each club does need a faculty adviser - I’m not exactly sure how hard it is to start a club. What are you thinking of?

Yeah, a lot of people “varsity spaz” their prep year (all three terms of PE)
After prep year, there are a bunch of club sports you can do, and there are also PE classes. No one is required to play on a team.

thingslost, what was the show this fall? Who did you play? If you don’t want to say, that’s fine, I’m just so interested!

Did you have a good time?

Ahh, not a club, per se, but a sort of school-wide campaign thing. I found this organization for developing African countries that I was obsessed about taking action for in our public HS, but underclassmen weren’t allowed to do anything. Which really sucked D: I was wondering about the reality of creating something similar to that at Exeter.

Do you know anything about fencing at Exeter then?

I actually know nothing about starting clubs or fencing, sorry.
Any other Exeter people able to help??

Im not really sure about exactly how you start a club but I know you can. About fencing there is fencing club on sundays and in spring you can do club fencing as a sport (I think even preps can). Also in spaz fall term we get to choose three sports to do for two weeks apiece and fencing is one of them.

Oh my god Hampton Beach hahaha.
I’m not a fan of it, myself.
Sketchy sketchy sketchyyy.
Just saying.
I prefer Rye Beach/Cable Beach/Newcastle.

Do you have access to those beaches at Exeter?

pfff, Hampton Beach, sketchy noooooo ;)

You said symphony orchestra is the lowest level of orchestra, if I were in it would I have as much work as you, somebody who is in chamber? Also, Do you only have orchestra from 6:00 to 8:15?
Is there a required amount of time you must practice each week? If so what is it?

Symphony is actually the second highest level orchestra. Depending on what instrument you play, Symphonia would be the lowest (strings), or Concert Band (woodwinds, winds, brass).

Chamber meets an extra three times a week, during the day (it takes up a class block). Symphony/Symphonia/Concert Band are Monday and Thursday nights from 6:45-8:15, but we usually get out earlier than 8:15.

There is no set time that you have to practice for - but you should practice :)

I would probably be in Symphonia if I got in, because I have been playing for almost 3 years now. I play the viola.
