Questions for a 1st Year Warren student

yea, it is near impossible for a school to shoot up 10+ rankings in a specific discipline in only a few years.

Wow. I just happened to be browsing by after a year long hiatus, and I can't believe this thread popped back up. Haha. I'll try my best to answer your questions

Each suite will have a little "living room, lounge, w/e it's called" as shown in the floor plan, and from my experience, suitemates are pretty cool with letting visiting friends stay over. If by family you mean parents, it might be a little strange to let them stay overnight, so I recommend you ask the people you're living with if they're ok with it.

The suites do not have a kitchenette but the apartments do. I believe some first years will get to live in an apartment their first year.
Why are you asking UCSD students whether to go to Cal or UCSD? Come here! Just kidding. TwylaBloo, team.katie, and doppelganger all gave great advice, especially since they seem to know more about this particular topic than I do.

I am not a bioengineer, but personally, if I were to pick between schools solely based on their bioengineering program, I would pick UCSD since as of now, they do have the stronger program. I could be wrong, but I don't think Cal will surpass SD in 2-3 years; Cal may possibly catch up and tie with SD, but that's different from ranking higher.

I would also advise you to take other things into account unless you're really only going to college just for bioengineering.

I asked a bioengineering friend for you, and he says to pick Cal just in case you decide to switch out to another major. I would add that it would also depend on how much you're willing to dedicate your time into your major. If you're confident that you'll be willing to do whatever it takes for this major, come to UCSD.
