My frosh ds is oos at osu and he likes it alot and we live in California so we are pretty far. He has made friends from all over since most freshman live in the dorms. He doesn’t find it too far way. The only thing that is bothering him right now is the cold since he is not use to living with snow but it’s not a big thing. I just don’t tell him about our weather.

He found this break that when he came home the friends who stayed local were still living the “high school life” and the friends who had gone far away like him he had more in common. Plus living far away allows you to develop a sense of independence which my DS enjoys.

A good thing to do before the start of freshman year is Camp Buckeye and be an OWL. Both things allow you to meet people in a small setting and get settled before everyone else. My son’s best friends are his fellow OWLs. We were told to do those things by admissions because they find that students that participate in them are less homesick and get settled in pretty quickly. OSU will keep you so busy that you will not have time to get homesick. Plus do some crazy things like HumansvsZoombies; the mirror lake jump or the Epic Snowball Fight scheduled for tomorrow on the Oval. Good luck
