I was trying to register for orientation and I couldn’t get the “green box” to pop up after I updated my info. Do you know what’s wrong?

@theecakee I don’t know a whole lot about the gamer scene… A lot of people play video games haha. We do have a unique game design program called The Guildhall [Game Design & Video Game Development at The Guildhall at SMU](<a href=“Home | SMU Guildhall”>http://guildhall.smu.edu/)

Yes, you get to move in early if you go to Corral. Im a Corral leader this fall so Ill be there helping to move y’all in and then take them on Corral.

The six person suite has six bedrooms sharing a common living/study room and bathroom thats cleaned by SMU.

Not sure about the AARO sign-up but I’m sure that they’ll get it righted soon.

Thank you. That is great that you are the Corral leader! I have another question about the Corral. When they go on the retreat is it a day event? In other words, at night do they sleep in their dorm rooms? Thanks!

We go to two retreat sites that are both about an hour and half away and everyone sleeps there.

Which dorm do you suggest for a business major?

Hi John,

Thx for all the helpings first:) My two declared majors on the application were General Business and Finance, which were both offered by Cox. But the acceptance letter I received didn’t say anything about my major, and I couldn’t know what major I was accepted in. Do you have any idea about that?

And I see you mentioned “the Business Honors Program” earlier in the thread. May I know is the participation by invitation? Are freshman applicants being invited when they receive their acceptance letters?

Thx:)

You aren’t accepted in to a major yet. SMU sees you as a “Pre-Business” major and after you finish taking the subset of classes you can enter Cox and declare your finance major.

No, anyone can do business honors. You take, I think, four classes designated honors to graduated from Cox with honors.

hey john!
i’m thinking about SMU next year and i was wondering how the workload is!
is it tough?
i’m not in any honors programs unfortuantely but i was just wondering how the workload and toughness compares to highschool.
thanks!

Tough to say. It depends on your high school, your high school ciriculum, the classes you take here, and more! I’d say that you’ll notice an increase in workload and difficulty once you get to college and it only gets worse from there haha. I took about a dozen AP tests in high school and went to a very competitive public high school and I felt incredibly prepared for SMU, but that’s not to say that there wasn’t an adjustment and that it wasn’t difficult.

I assure you as a second semester sophomore that it’s very challenging as you get further along.

Hi John, Can you tell where the corral is located or is it a state secret? Are there accommodations for kids who have disabilities?
Thanks!

Mustang Corral is held at three different campsites each about an hour and a half away. Yes, there are accommodations for them and I suggest contacting the New Student Orientation and Student Support Office (the people who run AARO/Corral) before you go.

johnnnnnnnn angle ( may i take a brief moment to say your name is quite catchy and awesome? alright, good digression xD) anyways…
okay so at this point I am thinking I will be, most likely, attending SMU over a school far closer to home…scary but exciting at the same time. Anyways, I am wondering if there is any definitive social distinction between kids actually from texas/the south and kids from…maybe, oh so hypothetically (:x new jersey ftw?) the east coast? [ultimately I’m probably worried because I have a very distinctly sarcastic sense of humor and have also been described, in the course of my existence, to be artsy and even, gulp, a “hipster”…will i be friendless??? xD) thanks btw i understand if you do not wish to even attempt to articulate a response to this :D

Hi John, the major in my I-20 issued from SMU shows " Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Stud". I actually apply for Biology. Are they different? Can I register in Biology?

@Desiderium - To put it simply, not at all! People are really from everywhere and people are always excited to have friends from different parts of the country. I was scared coming to SMU not knowing anyone that it would be tough making friends, but everyone is so outgoing and friendly that you won’t have any trouble! You may dress in all Urban Outfitters and American Apparel and you will have no trouble finding people

@VGWYHX - I’m not totally sure… that’s a good thing to ask at AARO. I think that’s normal because we all start out as pre-majors in Dedman.

Thank you, John. I heard the biology in SMU is kind of weak, is it true?

John-
Can undergraduates be an dorm RA or is it only for graduates? Thanks!

johnangle, this is the first time we will be flying instead of driving a student to school, so I am wondering how to get everything there. Can we ship in advance? What do most people do? We figure we will get there a day early and buy storage containers and linens once we arrive, but how about all the clothes and things?? And is there even room in the freshman dorms for some small storage units? We looked at floor plans in the brochure we received, but couldn’t tell if there was room for anything other than under bed storage. Thanks!

offyougo… Hopefully, we will find out what the dorms look like over the summer when we visit for AARO. Also, I wonder when the students will be notified of which dorm they are assigned to? It would be nice if they let us know before AARO. :)

I heard at Destination SMU that students are notified of Dorm Hall (not room or roommate) around June 25th. At the end of july, first week of August students will then find out their roommate and their room!

Thank you so much! :)
