Questions for current Gabelli student

Hey everyone,

I’m a current freshman in the Gabelli School of Business studying finance.

Feel free to ask anything and I’ll do my best to answer!

How competitive is the environment, and how would you describe the typical Gabelli student? How is Gabelli’s career placement?

xlhx33,

So far I’ve found that the environment is not competitive at all. Most students obviously want to do well, but everybody is willing to help each other. The Gabelli School has an emphasis on teamwork, so you’ll often be working with other students. So basically everybody is extremely nice and helpful and it is not a cutthroat environment whatsoever.

As for the question about the typical Gabelli student, there isn’t really a ‘normal’ student. Most students are pretty driven and motivated, but I know students from all over the US and world. If you have more specific questions about this, I’d be happy to elaborate further.

For career placement, it really depends on the industry. Gabelli has a really good career services that is led by Cynthia Bush who previously worked at uPenn, I believe. As for the alumni, most are extremely nice and willing to help. I’ve already met a few in the city for coffee and have spoken with more over the phone, and they have been very nice and helpful. Let me know if you’re curious about a specific industry. I, personally, know the most about investment banking, but I’ll do my best to answer for other fields. Also, if you look up “fordham post graduate report” you can get a lot of data. Also, I recommend making a Linkedin account because if you do, you can see all of the alumni and where they have worked and are working now.

Let me know if you need more clarification or if you have more questions.

How difficult to transfer from Rose Hill into Gabelli?

I, personally, entered directly into Gabelli, so I am not too familiar with the process. I do know that there are transfer meetings every week or two and I think the main requirement is a good GPA. I don’t know the exact number but I don’t think it is too hard to attain. If you plan on transferring into Gabelli, I recommend trying to do so during the summer if you can. If not, definitely join business clubs on campus to show that you have an interest.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi
Is the Lincoln Gabelli schoolmore competitive to get in than the Rose Hill one?

When do students typically declare their majors in the business school?

End of sophomore year. Freshman and Sophomore years are basically the same for all Gabelli students. Your intended major at that point (if you even have one) does not at all affect your classes. Junior year is when you choose classes based on major.

Sorry for late response- Must have missed it.

Anyway, I don’t think that one is harder to get into than the other. It is also easy to transfer between the two from what I understand.

What is the social life like? How many parties (if any) are there on weekends? I get the appeal of NYC but I want to be sure that there is still some of that traditional college experience there as well. Anything other than the college bars nearby?
