Hey guys, just how present is the LGBT community at Carleton? I know Carleton is accepting, but is there at least a visible population? I’m interested not so much in the dating aspect (though that’d be nice), but in knowing I won’t be the only one next year.

RawrAMonster:
I suggest you contact the [Carleton College Gender and Sexuality Center](http://apps.carleton.edu/campus/gsc/) directly, explain you are a prospective student, and pose your questions to them. They will probably give you the best information and might even refer you to an LGBT student to talk to regarding personal experience. This would be your most reliable source of information.

I will add, however, that LGBT students appear to have enough presence that the geology majors have established their own student/alumni-ae support network among themselves: http://apps.carleton.edu/curricular/geol/about/diversity/lgbt/

@RawrAMonster: I will be a new GSCA (Gender & Sexuality Center Associate) starting next year, and I’d just like to say that my experience with the GSC thus far has been absolutely amazing. The community it builds is very strong, and I’d say one of the more progressive colleges in the country regarding issues of gender and sexuality. There’s TONS of LGBT discussion groups, activities, speakers, and programs going on at all times on campus! (A small sampling: LGBTeaTime every Friday, an annual Rainbow Retreat in Wisconsin, and a “Queer Peer” program that matches you up with an upperclassman mentor)

Feel free to PM me - and that goes for anyone else reading this - I’d LOVE to talk more about the LGBT community, and also general diversity issues (race, class, etc) on campus which I’m involved in as well. Hope this helps!!
