My son wants to know if he needs an ethernet cable and a TV cable. (if yes how long?) He would also like to know if he can use a router to connect his PS3/laptop each to an ethernet cable?

Is he in the dorms? If so, then ethernet cable definitely. 7 feet should be enough, but if you want to be safe, 14 feet should do the trick. That's only if he ends up having to snake it all the way around his room to get to the desk, which he really shouldn't have to do. Make sure it's a 10 base-t cable. Cat-5 or Cat-6 should both work.

I didn't have a TV in the dorm, but I'm pretty sure he'll need a TV cable to get all the channels. Also, from the student housing website, "No cable box is required, but a "cable-ready" analog tuner, either in a television set or VCR/DVD player, is required to receive the signals."

As for the router...I'm not positive, but I don't think they're actually allowed in the dorms, though if your RA is lax I guess it wouldn't really matter.
