Questions for interview

For those that have already had an alumnus interview for Duke, what did you ask about? I'm having mine on Tuesday (applying to Trinity) and I suppose I'm going to touch on the extracurriculars, how to take advantage of the liberal arts-ish program (IMO), and undergrad research opportunities. Any suggestions?

Maybe you can talk about the clubs or sports that you wanna do at Duke as well. Mmm...I'm having mine tomorrow, and i've been looking thru. their website for hours by now...hehe

IMO? What's the IMO?

IMO = In my opinion

I asked about student life from when my interviewer attended Duke, I asked about the extracurriculars and sports, I asked about the engineering program (b/c he majored in engineering and I am going into engineering), I asked what affected his decission to go on to MED school versus obtaining a PhD in engineering, etc. Just relax and ask whatever comes to mind. A good question I found is:

"I really am interested in Duke and like it a lot, but I want to know from someone who has already completed this process as to why Duke? What made you choose Duke over the other colleges you got into?"

Again, they are informal, and mostly for your benefit. It's also good to ask about your interviewer's major from Duke (in case it is closely related to yours) so that you can ask questions about that major (if you are considering it) as well. Remember, it is informal and for your advantage. Your interviewer doesn't get to see your application or transcript so they don't know much about you either going into the interview.

Hope this helps...

I just had my interview, it was much easier than i imagined. The guy was really nice. Since he graduated almost 35 years ago, Duke was a bit different back then. But there was one question that he asked that I didn't answer to well. "How would you contribute to the other students?" kinda like that, and I was like, "Hmm.... increase diversity...?" Because I was thinking he would ask "how would you contribute to Duke campus?" instead of "contribute to other students." But overall, it was ok.

I had THE most random (but kinda interesting) questions for my interview. One that stuck out was, "If you were giving your own eulogy at your funeral, what would the last three lines be?" (I said something along the lines of "lets remember ____ for both the person she was and the things she did, etc. blah blah...Now let's make her proud and get this party started!") :)

haha...i think a friend who applied to Berkeley had a question similar to the eulogy one. what are some other random ones you were asked?
