do kids go home/away with friends during midterm recess in october?
When do people usually leave for thanksgiving? is it okay to miss class that wednesday?

Although I usually stay on campus during most breaks (except Winter and Summer, of course), the vast majority of students go home or on vacation. In addition, some Rice groups offer alternative Spring Break options (such as humanitarian work in Mexico and science/tech/business-related ordeals around the world).

Yes, people tend to miss the last day of classes before a break. Or sometimes they choose to leave in the early afternoon after morning classes. Profs are usually pretty understanding.

another one. If u double major, the cost of tution and aid package is unaffected right?

yes. tuition doesnt change if you take 12 credits or 20, 1 major or 3.

question--is it true that professors don't care if you skip class? like...if you have to go home for a week during school because of something, professors don't care as long as you take their tests....i gosh, i hope i phrased this correctly.

Profs at Rice get to know you as people, and can be flexible with certain things that profs at a Big U couldn't. I can't imagine that they "don't care if you skip class", though! You would have to have a pretty good reason for missing a week!

Professors are generally really cool if you have to miss class for some reason or another, especially for trips home or leaving early on break. My CAAM professor asked the class:

"Anyone planning on going to lab on Friday or will you all skip out for Spring break?"
no one raises their hands
"Yeah, I'm not going either."

It also depends on the class. I could only miss class once for my Creative Writing class this semester (though even that was pushing it, discussion oriented class). But last semester I didn't even go to psych 101 after the midterm until the final. (Lecture style class, one of the biggest at Rice. No homework, just two midterms + the final.)

It's a lot easier to miss classes if you're an SE, as long as you keep up with your homework you're good. Academs generally have a harder time making up assignments/discussions.

All that said, it's generally not a good idea to skip class (though it can be useful, i.e. catch up on missed sleep studying for a test, get another assignment done, mental health, get home earlier for a break.)
